Was at the hospital yesterday with the consultant for a follow up from when I was in hospital for gastro and dehydration.
Whilst I was there he read through previous notes and noticed I recently got diagnosed with advanced retinopathy. I was upset at the appointment as it’s been a lot emotionally and I’m feeling unwell still with stomach problems.
He wanted me to stay have blood and urine tests done, I have damaged kidneys and liver (apparently my kidneys were damaged ages ago and wasn’t informed from gp)
The consultant was very concerned as I’m only 29, and was actually angry that the GP have done nothing much since I was diagnosed and said they’ve been negligent. He said I should have been referred to the diabetes specialist a long time ago. So he phoned the specialist at the other hospital and spoke to the consultant there to get my referral in place.
It’s also turns out I should have been taken off mounjaro as I’ve had gastro issues all the time and potentially had contributed to having advanced retinopathy as my screening in June was fine.
I was even more upset and he was very sympathetic saying a lot of this could have been avoided if I had received the right care and support. He praised me on getting my hba1c from 101 to 37. He even took the time telling me about taking care of my feet, signs to watch out for and also importance of staying hydrated and eating as I’m now struggling with my eating disorder again.
He really went above and beyond. I’m still very upset and scared of things getting worse
