Low carbs and exercise have got my HbA1c down to 5% or 31 mmol/mol in 3 months. Doctor was pretty impressed and thought perhaps too much control! Down to one Metformin and test again in 3 months. Cholesterol much improved also and no need to for Statins. Three cheers for the forum!

Getting rid of statins actually got my glucose levels down after they'd "stalled" - they're known to be a potential cause of diabetes (e.g. https://health.clevelandclinic.org/2015/07/take-statins-what-you-need-to-know-about-diabetes-risk/).

Well done. How can you have too much control, what a silly statement!
One of the reasons my DN originally gave when trying to convince me not to test was that there is a quantity versus quality of life. It's OK having super low readings but not if you are miserable.

I just think she didn't want to pay for test strips.

What is it with these medical professionals? Why, on this earth, do they think that eating a jam donut or a slice of pizza would really make anyone happier than having their health, their eyesight, both their feet, possibly a trimmer figure than previously and the energy to enjoy it all?

It's because they tell porkies. She just didn't want to prescribe test strips. Also, after being in a chair for a month and finally recovering she prescribed a second statin saying, "No-one has ever had any trouble with these". They have now, another month in a chair.

It's like the children in Mary Poppins said, "Watch her, she's tricky".

They said the same to me and kept trying me on different statins. Aching joints, muscles and feeling unwell when taking them, I asked my GP what was causing this..she said. .. well. it does do that to some people.. I pushed and said, well. what is it doing to cause this pain... she admitted they don't really know ! I just replied. well, if you don't know, then I'm not taking them :)

Thanks to all for the kind words and to the forum for providing knowledge and motivation - without you I'd be at "first base"!
