Hi
Hope everyone is keeping well. I’ve been type 1 for 44 years. I can’t walk that well and after say about 15 minutes my feet burn by the toes and my 2 or 3rd one cramps. Also when I get out of bed my feet are uncomfortable but are ok as soon as I walk. I’ve had orthotics made and tried all other insoles ( when I had my check up the diabetic specialist said the skin on the balls of my feet is thin ) but to no avail. Today I’ve noticed one foot is red and itchy and I’ve really dry skin. I loved walking and dread it now. I still have a good pulse in both feet. I’ve made an appointment to be reassessed but in the current climate it’ll be a long time. Any advice? I’d like to avoid Gabapentin etc as I’ve had it before and also have epilepsy, it really made me feel off. Thanks

im T2, im not sure if this is related to diabetes with my itchy skin mostly just above my Ankles get dry and itchy as well, but I noticed it only occurs during cold season like autumn till the first weeks of spring. so itchy that at night I scratch it and now I have some dark pigments on my skin. but I have discovered that it helps and refrains me from scratching when I applied paw paw ointment as soon as I feel it starts to be itchy. and paw paw ointment is natural ointment (I hoped).

Connie - I think as someone relatively newly diagnosed Coeliac (if I recall correctly), it would be worthwhile getting in contact with your Endo and whoever helps you look after your Coeliac conditions.

Your symptoms could be many things, but I have real skin issues when I trip up on gluten. Also since my thyroid started to improve (thanks to a medication), my usually pretty dormant eczema has been going totally loopy!

Our bodies are like one of those domino trails, where when one is off, it imapcts further down the line.

Please don't be concerned about contacting your medics. I had to do something similar last week, because my GP was refusing to arrange blood tests for me, required by the Endo for next week. The Endo's response was basically that there's more going on in the world at the moment than COVID, and although that is a concern, people needed ongoing treatment and attention for their wider health.

(My bloods have now been done, but that's a tale I'll spare you from!)

Good luck with it all. Getting balance in anything at the moment is an additional challenge.

I had very itchy and dry skin on feet and ankles and thought it was caused by diabetes 2. Not so, the itch was caused by side effects of taking Amlodipine, a common prescription drug that lowers blood pressure. Problems cured by applying Oilatum moisturising cream daily.
