Hi yes I am type 1 been so for nearly 23 years, as stated on previous posts I am allowed one box a week had my last box early on Tuesday and ran out again, never used to test at all really years ago but that was when I could recognise hypos etc easy. Controls gona bit up and down and like to test regular to know where my sugars are at. Years back when I didn't test so much got 8 boxes a time but with the costs etc etc allowed one box a week any more they say that's my choice, problem is a lot of diabetics can easily manage on 4/6 times a day which is great for them. For me even if my sugars don't vastly improve with testing 7/10 times a day it makes me feel comfortable knowing what my sugars are at at any given time and it gives me confidence and peace of mind, iam in a sort of limbo land, as I buy my own, never really go to see the doctors because I think most of them are **** anyway, and keep myself out of hospital there not really bothered they just say same things all the time. Spoken to my consultant he says up to the GP, I was thinking about boycotting all my check ups in protest.. they are quite happy for me to struggle paying for stuff, but they want me to have all my check ups to tick there boxes so it looks good on them. Cancelled my eye screening test so no doubt they will be in contact with me soon. Even tried PALS to sort something out, I feel like a fooking kid running to the chemist every single week for medication that I need is ongoing. A big problem for me is a lot of diabetics can say testing 5/6 times a day is MORE than enough and all that does is reinforce that the GPs think there right..When they are not. They wouldn't restrict there family medication, already had a warning for kicking off at last surgery, trying to put people under more stress. like I said its one of those days
