Hi there.
I was prescribed Jardiance three months ago.
Prev I was on 6mg of Glimeperimide per day and my HBA1C was increasing and I was unable to lose weight.
Three months ago my HBA1C was 96 and the DN obvs said that could not be allowed to continue.
She reduced my Glimeperimide to 3mg per day plus 10 mg of Jardiance. I had a Liver and Kidney function test first to check all okay.
I was very worried about this drug as I am always anxious about new meds and the potential side effects concerned me. However, I gave it a go.
Best thing I ever did, I have managed to lose a stone in the last three months without reducing my diet too much (low carbing) and my HBA1C this week had gone down to 56. I do have to be careful on going too long in between meals as I do seem to have lost my "hypo awareness" a bit and the other day had gone to 3.7 with no symptoms, so that's prob the Glimeperimide which I may ask to reduce further.
The first few days I was passing a lot of urine but that did settle down and to be fair I am not going any more often than usual now but I would advise you drink plenty of fluid because although I have not had Thrush or infections, I can have a slight " sting" if I get dehydrated.
Dehydration is a thing to avoid on Jardiance.
To put my mind at rest I also bought some Ketostix and I check my Keytones once a day, just to make sure all is okay because although it is a very low risk of Ketoacidosis (plus I low carb) I like to be sure I am okay.
I would say try it, it has def worked for me.
As for long term side effects I don't think much has been identified so far as I understand it is a relatively new drug, well it is in the U.K. I suppose it is like anything, this horrible condition has such potentially bad effects on the body anyway.
Good luck. X
