I have been T2 for about 30 years now, preceded by 3 gestational diabetes pregnancies, first one not even diagnosed until 3 weeks before delivery, second one controlled by diet and third by insulin. Had a gap for a couple of years, then it returned with a bang, major weight loss etc etc. Went straight onto insulin. Have dabbled (!) with Metformin for several years, not really taking anything seriously. Had a silent heart attack 12 years ago, which scared the pants off me, and have buckled down since! Never been overweight, but I guess age is creeping up on me(60), and have been taking Metformin for 4 years now. My body has never accepted this, even with SR version, having diarrhoea 1 or 2 times a week. Doesn’t matter how or when I take them, nothing helps. I take other meds alongside, BP, beta blockers, clopidogrel etc, which I am concerned that these are not getting absorbed correctly when I have the diarrhoea. When I go on holiday, or away for weekends I just don’t take it. I have missed appointments as I can’t leave the house. I also have to take a minimum of 4 Imodium to stop it. I have read a load on Jardiance, and would welcome any views from anyone who is taking this medication. Thanks
Lol, yes, it was the old version, no sugar definitely, but once I went onto insulin it was counting grams of carb and matching insulin to carbs eaten, so weight did increase. I tried Keto, but really struggled with it. Quite low carbs now, but not no carbs. Am 11 stones or thereabouts at 5feet 9 so happy with weight. GPs and nurses never overly bothered, seem happy to tell me to take Imodium! Am off to clinic later today so will discuss there too. Thank you.No clue on the Jardiance, but I have a feeling "diet controlled" meant something entirely different during your second pregnancy than it does these days. (Unless low carb/high fat was a thing then?). Could be an option: https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/blog/jokalsbeek.401801/ (That's the short "quick start guide" version... More details are on dietdoctor.com and in Dr. jason Fung's The Diabetes Code).
Could also be completely useless of course, but just wanted to throw another choice you may not know about in there. Just surprised you weren't moved off of metformin before, if it hinders your daily life so much, and has for such a long time. I'm sorry you've been made to go through that for so long!
I hope you'll feel better soon!

Thanks for your thoughts.Hi ChelseaGirl, I have zero medical knowledge, I am just offering my views on the meds we share, I have never had a heart attack of been pregnant (chelseaboy hehe) I have been taking met for quite a few years and have found them very ineffective, they dont seem to make much difference at all to my bg, so personally, if they were stopping me leaving the house, I would not be taking them, I have stopped taking my evening 2 tabs because they upset me, so I only take 2 morning tabs (1g).
Everything ive read about Jardinace seems to be bad, however I loved it, made a huge difference to my bg and I had no problems with infections, they stopped me taking them because they were worried about my high keytones, they apparently can cause dka.
I really am ignorant re medical stuff so please dont do anything based on my experience, best wishes, I hope you get where you need to be soon.
Good luck! Hope you'll get a solution that doesn't include more immodium.Lol, yes, it was the old version, no sugar definitely, but once I went onto insulin it was counting grams of carb and matching insulin to carbs eaten, so weight did increase. Thanks! Went to clinic, spoke to nurse, having written out a page of reasons why I would like a trial. She is going to speak to consultant and get back to me. She did say however, that we are a bit slow on the uptake in this area, so she doesn’t know of anyone that has been prescribed this medication. She was a bit surprised, I think, that having done my homework, that it was agreed by my PCT that it is prescribable in this area. Will wait and see!Good luck! Hope you'll get a solution that doesn't include more immodium.
