Type 1 Jelly Babies

I do, and wine gums!

In the UK (not sure where you're at?) there is nutritional information on the back per 100g and per 2 jelly babies or something. I can't quite remember. I use 4 jelly babies to treat a hypo which is around 20g carbs.

Cheers,
Grant

lol ... "Jelly Babies Save Lives"

There is about 20g of carbs in 4 Jelly Babies.

Personally, I use a 200ml carton of orange juice for hypos, but Jelly Babies will do the trick

Does anyone use Jelly Babies for hypos? If so how do you know how many to take?

Yes I use JB's for hypo's and lowish bg levels, how many to take is based on experience really, you have to take into account factors such as how much active (bolus) insulin is on board and how low the bg is, so it could be anything from 2-4 JB's.

I have read somewhere on this forum that drinks (such as orange juice, lucozade) are absorbed into the system quicker. I find this better, especially if you're out in a cold sweat!

Jelly babies are perfect for the glove box in the car or your pocket though. Either way, you won't go wrong :)

Thank you. We are in the UK (London) so should be able to figure it out :)

That's right, the party size cans of full sugar Coke are ideal or you can buy products such as GlucoJuice (Boots sell them).

Bassett's fun size packs of jelly babies are perfect for hypos. They have 16g carbs per pack, so no temptation to eat too many. Unfortunately I can no longer use them, due to my recent coeliac diagnosis, as they "may contain wheat".

+1 for Glucojuice. It is especially great when doing sport, as its so easy to carry. I much prefer liquids as I used to eat midget gems as my way of getting my favourite treat, however I found they take an age to eat, and get stuck in my teeth which is a pain when all you really want is to fix the hypo.

I use the little packets of jelly baby minis in the haribo party pack. Just the right amount.

Jelly babies rock for hypos, the lowest I've been is 1.9 and 6 of the little jellies did the job.
My son bought me some dextrose sweets from Germany and 2 of them did a good job, I keep them handy, they come in nice flavours like blueberry, lime etc
