can anyone help me. I'm type 2 taking humulin at night and Victoza on a morning with metformin and tolibulomide (if that's spelt right). I started on the humulin at the end of last year and I seem to have developed a lot of joint pain in my hands, wrists, shoulders and arms. Not sure if it's a coincidence but has anyone else got the same. It's progressively getting more painful and very uncomfortable. I'm 52 and don't really want to think I've got arthritis or rheumatism just yet.
Thanks

Are you taking statins as well? Quite a few people report joint pains from them..

I'm on the long acting one - isophane insulin - bright green in colour
I can't comment first hand but I've checked the patient information on the website and there seems to be no mention...

Probably like me ... I have just been diagnosed with FIBROMYALGIA on top of my type 2 diabetes (treated with insulin). Just had the diabetic review and that was "nearly perfect" as far as the diabetic nurse was concerned, the pains are NOT diabetes related in any way. Diabetic diagnosis was in 2000 and started insulin 7 or 8 years ago.
Fibromyalgia should be diagnosed by a rheumatologist so ask to be refered to your local hospital. The consultant will ask various questions and then use pressure points all over your body. If you do have fibro when he presses these points they hurt like hell, but you wouldn't know anything about it until they are pressed in the right way.
I have joint aches in ankles, knees (also have osteo arthritis and need a new right knee before too long), back, left shoulder and right elbow - to name just a few. My hips ache a little every now and then.

Hello, I've just left a message on the Metformin page, but if I may just add....after being diagnosed 2 years ago with Diabetes, I eventually ended up taking 1 x 500mg of Metformin daily, my side effects, increased joint pain, my fingers became gnarled, by the morning I had to pop them back, then perhaps pop them again, my joints hurt, knees, wrists, neck, I am disabled and live with chronic pain, but 'this' was a different pain, my knees would not lock out, I had incredible sweats, drenching sweats, hair loss and peeling finger nails....I do really put this down to diabetes, and aggrivation by the metformin. I now take 1 x 500mg Metformin every other day and all the above side effects have eased to a more tolerable level....but not cured. I also take vitamins but do get this pains double checked...I wish you well...what a twisty road travelled by us diabetics! Take care kathy.
