Joint pain

Hi. I am confused and concerned about continuing joint pain. I have been on a VLCHF for about 3 months now, with great effects on my blood levels. Problem is I am almost continuously in pain in my hips, knees and lower back. My hips are REALLY bad so much so today that I could hardly walk. I also have no energy. I have read about low carb flu but surely must be through that now.
I eat quite a lot of protein and have recently increased my fat intake. My joint pain is still present. I take Wellman supplements and am eating fish about 2/3 times a week.
Does anyone have any thoughts on what this might be. I am finding it hard to muster any energy for exercise and the pain just puts me off. J

It is not clear if your pain started after you began low carb. No one on here can diagnose you so the best advice is always to go see your doctor. In the meantime you could add back in some carbs and/or lower the protien and see if it changes anything. Again, I am not a doctor.

LCHF is not high protein. High protein can raise uric acid and cause inflammation. Also have you added more nightshade veggies such as peppers of all kinds, tomato, tomato or eggplant? Huge arthritis culprits. Dairy? Same. I'm suffering a little from some dairy at a party Saturday. Good reminder for me

Many interesting ideas from Kristin251. To mention uric acid crystals is to suggest the disease of gout.

About proteins, here are some contrary ideas. Not out of doubt of the ideas above, rather for the sake of increasing the information. "Conclusions. These findings from a nationally representative sample of adults in the US suggest that higher levels of meat and seafood consumption are associated with higher serum levels of uric acid but that total protein intake is not. Dairy consumption was inversely associated with the serum uric acid level." (source: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15641075) There's a blood test for uric acid, which I've had twice, because I was in clinical research studies and the investigators chose to run it. It's a simple test, but it's usually not ordered unless there's a suspicion of a particular ailment.

I'm partial to dairy myself, I eat maybe 45-65 g of protein daily, the lion's share of it from dairy.

Hi @jonnoras,
Whilst members here can put forward suggestions for your pain, you really need to see a Dr. Nobody here is qualified to make a diagnosis.

Thanks for all your replies. I realise no one is in a position to diagnose however, other people may have similar experiences to mine and I wanted to tap into that. Cheers. J

Spent a short while wondering who Dr. Nobody was.

Doh!

Personally, I had really bad joint pain before I was diagnosed but it went once my blood sugar was under control (initially on LCHF with a max of 20g carbs a day), so my experience is the opposite of yours. I'd echo what others have seen and go and see a Dr.
Incidentally, are you on statins as joint pain is a known side effect of some statins on some patients: http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Cholesterol-lowering-medicines-statins/Pages/Side-effects.aspx

Hi. Thanks for the response. I'm not on any meds. I have lost about 5 stones since January this year and my bloods are rarely above 6.8 1hr after a meal. I feel the low carb diet us working, it's just the joint pain. I think I need to trial the removal or reduction of certain foods. Cheers. J
