Juice detox programme

Hi I want to do the juice detox programme for 7 days to clean my system out and then go onto an organic only healthy eating plan. I know that I am only overweight and suffering from diabetes type 2 from eating a high sugar, fat and generally rubbish diet for years and now I am going to change my lifestyle for good as I hate being on byetta injection and metformin and no matter what diet I try I just give up and gain even more weight. My diabetic nurse has now told me that if when I go for my check up I haven not lost weight and still have sugar levels going up and down I will have no choice but to take insullin. Has anyone heard of this plan by Jason Vale (The Juice Master)?
My daughter is a midwife and has a lot of medical friends and has asked one of the diabetic consultants about it who has said that He believes this detox with juices is a good idea however, I should cut out the really sugary fruits or at least only use a small ammount but cannot see it doing me any harm at all as long as I drink plenty or water and if I feel at all light headed then to eat cucumber or carrott if needed but to only do it for a maximum of a week but no longer. What does anyone think, should I do it because I am at my wits end and feel as if I am commiting suicide only very slowly by keeping this weight on. I am only 5ft 2 and weigh almost 14 stones and have a very small frame and take a size 4 shoe and am going to be 57 in May.
Joy :?

I think you absolutely SHOULD do it.. Simply because you ARE at your wits end, and inaction will make you feel even worse.

You'll have to be careful with your medication, but a little common sense will help you through tit.

Go for it - and good luck! I'll be very interested to hear how you get on.

I am rather surprised that the consultant your daughter spoke to supports detoxing because the NHS seems to be rather more critical. If you are going to try it, avoid grapefruit juice (which can interact with numerous drugs)

Hi. Personally I would avoid any diet 'programs' as they aren't really necessary and the liver, kidneys etc do a great job at managing the body's chemicals unless you have some specific illness affecting them. Be careful with juices as any juice will contain sugar so take note of the carb content. The important thing for diabetes is a sensible low'ish carb diet. That also means low-GI carbs and sensible portion sizes. If you can keep at it, and we all know it can be difficult, you will gradually lose weight. Do you read the food content on tins and packets? It can seem a bit obsessive but over time you do get to find out what the food culprits are. Good luck and keep at it as you will win.

Hi,

I did the Jason Vale diet about a year ago. I did it for two reasons - detox and to lose a few pounds before a friend's wedding. It's pretty difficult at times, but it definitely worked well for me. Some of the juices, especially the ones suggested for the first few days, are pretty awful. I made a few amendments to mine to make them a little more tolerable.

By day three I was getting quite bad headaches and generally felt a bit "eugh". It passed fairly quickly though.

Some if the juices are quite high in sugar as they contain so much fruit. Be a little careful here and keep an eye on your blood sugars.

Good luck!
