Hello all,
Hope you are all well and ok.
My name is Amy Wilton, I am 15 years old and was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in the year 2000 at the age of 5. At that time we were living in America, as my Father is in the Navy and was posted out there for two and a half years. When we moved back we had to 'relearn' quite a bit as the UK deal with diabetes very differently, but we coped reasonably well.

Once back in the UK we began to be heavily involved with JDRF and have done the annual 'Walk to Cure Diabetes' every year since. My Mum also did a sponsored sky dive a few years ago too.
Then last year in June I was invited to represent the UK in JDRF's Childrens Congress in Washington DC, USA. I had the most amazing experiance over there, which included going to the White House, and having my photo taken with the other delegates with President Obama. I also got to meet Nick Jonas and spoke to him briefly after the senate hearing on Capitol Hill too, he is a really nice guy. I also met Mary Tyler Moore, Sugar Ray Leonard and spoke to Dr Aaron Kowalski who is the Assistant Vice President for Glucose Control at JDRF International and Director of the JDRF Artificial Pancreas Project which was very interesting, and he showed me his CGM and Pump and stuff, very interesting we are so close to that cure.

Then last November I won the Bayer Nick Jonas Simple Wins competition and so got to go to Dublin with my Mum and friend, meet the Jonas Brothers then watch their concert. Which was lovely. :)

I do a lot of speeches on behalf of JDRF to show a personal view of living with Type 1 diabetes, which was one of the reasons I was chosen to go to the congress. Mainly aimed at 'business people' trying to gain corperate sponsorship.

I also have 2 Whippets, live near Portsmouth, Hampshire. Am really interested in photography, and recently won the Marwell Residents Junior category for the Marwell 2010 Photographic competition too, so was pleased about that.
Anyway here are a few photos, sorry for waffling on, hope it doesnt sound boastful, wasnt meant to in the slightest.

I am on the balcony, in the centre part, the blonde girl in the middle directly above Obama:

Hi amyloise and a warm welcome to the forum.

You seem like an inspiration to young diabetics and I look forward to your postings. I am a Type 2.

Catherine.
