you are type1 if you need insulin to control your glucose levels. Is your diabetic nurse at your surgery or diabetic/endocrinology department at your regional hospital? if the former, approach the experts at the hospital who actually know what they are talking about. Your are right, Daphne course is for type 1.My diabetic consultant has said I’m late onset Type 1. It’s been confirmed. I questioned this as my diabetic nurse encouraged me to go on the Desmond course, I would have thought Daphne would be more appropriate .
I am on Lantus and Novorapid.
I also have low ferritin levels which may skew the HbA1c result.
Hi, would someone be able to shed any light on my last test result?
I have been diagnosed as a late onset type 1. Do my results gauge me as a Type 2?
Thank you

I was diagnosed as type 2 when I was 30, 10 years later I got a new nurse who felt I had been missed diagnosed. I was sent for genetic testing and was told I have MODY12, I am now with a specialist at the hospital clinic, my bloods was 109 when I was referred and now at my last test I was 58. Having the right doctor can make all the difference.Hi, would someone be able to shed any light on my last test result?

There are also Type 2s and Type 3s who are insulin users.you are type1 if you need insulin to control your glucose levels. I've had type 1 since the age of 24 ( now 60). You can be diagnosed with type1 at any age.

Thank you.Hi, do you know if you have had C-peptide and Islet cell antibodies blood tests? They are the ones that confirm the autoimmune side of type 1 diabetes.
The wording on the test result you posted tends to be standard as produced by the lab. I’m a diabetic and a GP practice nurse who does diabetic reviews for patients. Anyone suspected of Type 1 at diagnosis, we would send the above tests to confirm.
Hope that helps!
I'm a late onset diabetic myself. My own diagnosis was originally type two and was primarily caused by a damaged pancreas. As tablets didn't work I was referred to the type 1 clinic and put on insulin, eventually diagnosed as type 3c.Hi, would someone be able to shed any light on my last test result?

Thank you.
Yes I have had all the tests done with my diabetic consultant and it has been confirmed I am a late onset T1.
I had an appointment with my DN and she has now confirmed this with my medical records.
She also contacted the GP and I was able to have an appointment just minutes after seeing her so all progressing.
More blood tests in a month, prescribed iron tablets and will have a fructosamine test for the HbA1c.
The GP also said that they don't have the option of doing the Free T3 test so will go the general TSH.
I was about to suggest this, as I was unsure whether I was Type 1 or 2, but there is a blood test that can unequivocally determine, which they did for me and they said no question about it I was type 1!Suggest you press for them to refer you to a diabetic consultant under the NHS, when you get to see the consultant make sure they are aware of all your tests and potential additional issues.
Thank you BillyLate Onset Type 1 doesn't exist - it's a diagnosis terminology for Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults (LADA), and sometimes called Type 1.5 because the symptoms sit between types 1 and 2.
The easiest way to confirm this diagnosis to get your GP to take a blood test for GADA antibodies - that's the test for Type 1 and LADA.
Another indicator (but not essential) is the presence of other autoimmune conditions - I have alopicia and Pernicious anemia. It was when researching alopicia that I discovered LADA and chased up my GP because I had uncontrollable Type 2 for 4 years prior.
Just to make sure there's no confusion, late onset T1 is sometimes used to describe people who develop T1 as an adult, as opposed to childhood T1, so it does exist.Late Onset Type 1 doesn't exist
But this is not always conclusive. Their are other antibodies possible, and the antibodies can come and go as well. The easiest way to confirm this diagnosis to get your GP to take a blood test for GADA antibodies - that's the test for Type 1 and LADA.
Did you ask because your blood results say something about the NICE targets for T2?Hi, would someone be able to shed any light on my last test result?

Thank you Antje77. All confirmed and documented as type1.Just to make sure there's no confusion, late onset T1 is sometimes used to describe people who develop T1 as an adult, as opposed to childhood T1, so it does exist.
But this is not always conclusive. Their are other antibodies possible, and the antibodies can come and go as well.
So while a positive anti-GAD test plus having diabetes is diagnostic of T1, a negative anti-GAD test doesn't rule out T1.

That's just a standard addition to blood result to clarify that anything over 48 is in the diabetic range, nothing to do with your result.
If you have been diagnosed with T1 it's very likely that you are T1!
