Hi,
I spoke to my DNS today, after she came back from leave. My BG's are still high with my latest HbA1c being 86. I explained that once I started eating ie,breakfast & lunch my BG seems to stay raised even with 42 units of Humalin M3 in the morning! She is reasonably happy with my before breakfast BG of between 7.5 and 8.5. (I take 39 units before evening meal) and I do not eat after 6pm.

She said, not for the first time, without me asking about it, that she did not really want to start me on a bolus/basal regime because it would encourage weight gain. But here is my question:

Although my readings remain high from breakfast onwards, the highest reading of the day is 2hr after lunch and beyond!!

Is it feasable to have my morning and evening Humalin M3 as normal, but have an additional injection of rapid acting insulin before lunch? hoping that would even things out a bit??

Thanks

Mervyn

HI
I am T1 and i have four injections a day. i ave Novarapid three times a day and Lantus solar star which is slow acting at night.
It can make you gain weight but the lower your sugars get the less insulin you will need in the end.
If your still concerned speak to her again.
Remember we are not doctors, we can only go by experience.
I have had diabetes for 37 years and am now 43, so have had a lot of experience, not all being good. Went through a rebellion on more than one accassion.
Through this i have some complications mainly with my sight, i am registered partially sighted and a few other problems.
It has only been in the last five years i have got to grips with it all again.
So the better the control the better for you.
Any problems you must contact the DNS or GP.
Let me know how you get on.
Take care
Tracey
