Yes, I agree. Maybe you misunderstood something. Your 40 is non-diabetic if it was an Hba1c, and 45 is still only pre-diabetic so Metformin would not be appropriate. I agree you need a print out, which will clarify matters.

You would only be type 2 if you were 48 or over.

Well it's probably too late now and anyway I've forgotten and I expect you have too with all this data. I do recall @cold ethyl suggesting "If they offer you Metformin, make sure you ask how carefully they'll be monitoring your B12 levels as low B12 is a common side effect of the medication."
I suggest we start again with whatever you're told this afternoon and maybe we can make a plan.
