Many thanks , I think im going to like this forum XXWelcome Jane. A little bit of online research will give you the answer. drugs.com is very good. I have been on Gliclazide for about 10 years and I don't think I have had any side effects other than night time hypos ..... but equally it could have been the Lantus. However, I did learn the other day that it was "rumoured" to cause any remaining beta cells to die ..... If you go onto twice daily insulin I understand I can drop the Gliclazide.
Yep I too was threatened with a one way ticket to the Insulin Terminus, and ended up with Glix too. I have just responded to a similar thread started today entitlled 'Metformin and Gliclazade', which may be of interest to you, The bgl you quote is not as bad as I was last year, and my HBA1c has dropped from 99 to 41 and I am pleasantly surprised at how easy it was.Hi , new to this forum, just to say i ve been prescribed Gliclazide today to go with all my other type2 drugs
I think its because ive been monitored and i have done all the right things , lost weight, stopped drinking alcohol etc but my sugar level is still 17 -20 when tested (this is last resort before being put on insulin i think) any help or suggestions would be welcome about side effects etc
Luv Jane (Newbie to this forum )
The following study uses specific participants, and is in vitro rather than in vivo, so may not apply to us humans. The subjects were also non obese.Hi. I was on max dose Gliclazide for many years before insulin. It's a drug used when it is suspected that the insulin output from the pancreas is below what it should be. The only side effects tend to be hypos if the dose is too high (but shows it is working!) and weight gain if you eat too many carbs. Sometimes needing Gliclazide is an indicator that you actually have Late onset T1 rather than T2. As and when insulin is started, Gliclazide should be stopped as insulin shots provides the insulin you need. I've also read that Glic kills off beta cells but I've never seen any research evidence.
Hi , Alogliptin for T2 and thyroid drug and 2 types of blood pressure drugs and statins I basically rattle! xxYep I too was threatened with a one way ticket to the Insulin Terminus, and ended up with Glix too. You mention other T2 drugs. May I ask what they are?
Hi , have given up alcohol and most sweet things, not dieted as such just not eating as much, no seconds etc .but they suggested i have a thyroid problem and i think the drugs from that may of helped with a bit of weight shift xHi,
You say you have done all the right things, lost weight and stopped drinking alcohol, but what about diet? Can you tell us what sort of diet you routinely eat? This may be what is preventing your levels from dropping. If you give us that information we may be able to help more.
Everyone is so nice and helpful on this forum, I was in denial of diabetes , im on slow release metformin twice a day and other drugs in between, the weight i have lost i think is because of going tee total and thyroid drug has seemed to help xwelcome here Jane/ Shopgirl50

I do count calories I just wondered if the thyroid drugs had made a difference im new to forum perhaps i said the wrong thing my apologiesI too take thyroid medication.. in fact I would die without it after slowly in a year or too have becoming an retarded mega fat zombie... so that hormon I´ll take like forever
but that said I am one of the 2% that dont loose weight when my thyroid-levels are too high... so not all can just up it if they are overweight... some have to count calories like others with a more normal not artificial metabolism..
Thanks xHave you considered reducing your carbohydrates? It isn't just sugar that causes problems for diabetics, it is all carbs (sugar is just one carb). They all turn to glucose once inside the system, and glucose is just what we don't need!. This is especially true for bread, potatoes, rice, pasta, cereals and flour. Diet is the key, medication helps but is not the key. If it turns out you actually are a Type 2 rather than a LADA you may find that by seriously reducing all major carbs you just might avoid insulin, and may even manage to reduce your diabetes medication. I believe it is worth a try.
