hi there.
been dietary type 2 for 4 and a half years. last hba1c was 7.9 so doc has put me on two 500mg metformin 1 at breakfast and 1at evening meal.
Was advised by the pharmacist to just take 1 initially for a few days then move up to the full dose. seems ok, but I've tested a few times, and peaked at 12, after dinner. morning rate is 6.2-6.8. does it take a wee while to build up as the pharmacist stated? I do feel better in myself though less sleepy and thirsty, and also less depressed and grumpy.

He is advising that, because Metformin can seriously upset some digestive systems. It's not called Metfartin  for nothing.
What do you eat?
A change in diet might help get those numbers down

I've moved onto the full dose now, and apart from a wee bit of bad stomach, it's been not too bad, my numbers are on teh way down it seems. I guess it does build up over a few weeks as it ecourages the cells to work again.
I'm seriously cutting down on carbs, starchy or not.

bowl of porrige for brekkie, at 6am, then nothing till lunchtime (usually a cheese salad) and again till dinner time. then I dont eat after that till next morning, trying to lose 3 stone. Doc reckons with the weight off I may even be able to come off the meds. got to be worth it.

Go to it coreervers.
QWhat's your exercise routine?

well I try to use stairs at wokr more than the lift. then I play bowls two nights a week, metal detecting at weekends, and have a home golf driving range in between.
