Hello to the Forum Group.

I have recently been diagnosed with type 2. I am not on medication just under the health team who are monitoring my Weight, lifestyle BP and cholesterol. Generally fit and well and happy with life. I may have to make changes but it is not going to control my life.

I am travelling to the USA and was wondering if there are any restrictions that i need to know about. I am on Prescribed drugs for BP and Cholesterol. :P

Are there any sites that i need to visit for guidance and advice.

Hi Kajmeister, welcome to the forum. If you are taking prescription drugs with you get your doctor to write a letter stating which drugs you are on,you may have to pay for the letter.Take enough with you for your visit.Drugs in the US often have different names so it will save confusion .The US use a lot of corn syrup in products so this would be one thing to look out for in bought foods.they also calculate their carbs differently so carb values on things will also be different. As you are diet controlled you will have to watch the portion sizes that you eat over there as well to try and keep your sugars under control.Do you have a blood test monitor? If you do make sure to take enough strips with you.In the US they test differently by using mg/dl instead of mmol/l like we do here.I'm not sure what you mean by restrictions though?

Hi Kajmeister,

If by restriction you mean your medications then no, there are no restrictions. However, take as many as you will need for the trip and it would be advisable to carry them with your hand luggage. Anything that looks like a drug that it might be possible to sell is likely to disappear from your luggage!

Please note that as from Monday just gone (12th) you can only enter the US if you have received an entry visa. This is a new regulation and you can no longer just enter the states with your passport, return ticket and the green entry form you are issued on the plane.

You must apply online at least 72 hours before your trip (advisable to allow much more time than this though). The website to apply to is
