I've been struggling with giving up smoking, got down to around 5 a day but just couldn't shake the habit, even though I was using NRT. Having nothing to do with my hands was the problem.
Since the middle of last year Dragon has been cross stitching, it's helped her with her nail biting problem - so I thought I'd give it a whirl. So over the last coupla months I've been trying to shake my smoking habit by cross stitching...and it's worked! Here are some of the results:

Anyway, just couldn't resist showing off for two reasons, something productive and I'm no longer smoking.
Hi Tubs,
Congrats, well done on cutting out ciggies, I used to like knitting, i used to knit all the time, now can't read the patterns, so i am struggling to keep busy nowaday's!
i used to like knitting! I am making a 3 foot high wollen doll of my partner at minute! It is a big one! So struggling as i have made my own pattern!
I like the design for the tableware it looks good! I like the way it looks!
Good idea Tubs. Went to a cross stitch shop last Friday and bought a chart and a book full of charts I can use. Some designs can be used on sweatshirts etc. Gonna be busy for years to come!!
Sorry tubs, must have missed the email to this in amongst the mainly junk email.
It is a good idea but there are not many people who appreciate and want things made out of real wood. What I do is just a hobby and gets me out of the wive's way for a while, especially when she is not in a good mood.
Luckily, she does like wood and looks after the coffee table I made last year.
BTW, if I am still around, it's our 30th anniversary next year, do you think you can design something for that occasion?
