Chemotherapy. Just finished it.
Hi

i have just undegone an operation and will be in hospital for another 5 days.

I was diagnosed as type 2 four years ago.

My blood readings are really quite high (230+) and I've been receiving insulin shots.

My question is: is it normal to have higher readings after surgery?

Thanks

Mick

I would imagine so. A stressful time can cause blood sugar levels to go up or down, depending on the person - at least that what has been stated for Type 1s on the DAFNE course.

Keep taking your insulin shots because your body clearly needs the extra support right now. If no improvement occurs it would be best to speak to the team looking after you to see about putting it up by one or two units if they feel it is needed.

Best wishes and get well soon!

Thanks for that Otenba, I hadn't thought of stress as being a factor. I guess that it's stress on the body rather than mental stress.

I have about 6 months of chemo therapy after i heal, so i guess that'll mean more stress! (gulp).

I'll have to arrange an appointment with my diabetes doctor when i get out.

Now more stress, i'm hoping my house hasn't flooded while i'm in here!

All the best
