Hi Everyone. Have just found the Diabetes Community and wanted to introduce myself. I live in Somerset near Radstock which is up in the Mendip Hills. Its a beautiful area and I am lucky to be living in a lovely supported housing bungalow with a brill husband and a lovely little cream toy poodle.

I have quite a few health problems. I have severe fibromyalgia with two badly osteoarthritic hips and was diagnosed with type2 diabetes about 3 years ago now. I take Metformin 500 one in the morning and 2 with my main meal and am lucky to always get a really good HA1bc result. I am also asthmatic but I have that under good control so it isn't a real worry to me. Taking many strong meds and anti inflammatories has given chronic gastritis which gives me some problems but my biggest problem is that I can no longer walk due to the pain and the hips which are so stiff I can't manouver properly and give agony in my knees. I get constant muscle spasms.

I have gained loads ofweight and although I eat a really healthy and well balanced diet which is a lot less than normal I just cant lose weight which I need to do to be able to have my hips replaced. We are currently trying to fight our way through the PCT to get a chance of gastric banding or similar. I am hoping that if I can get that done it will also help stop my diabetes as well. I don't care if I have floppy skin after as long as I can regain some mobility so that I can drive my car again and play with my grandchildren and come off the high doses of morpine I take amongst a lot of other seriously strong meds. I know my fibromyalgia will stay but at least it will be a bit easier to deal with.

Despite all this I try to remain in good spirits because there are always people worse off than me. My husband looks after me despite having angina and COPD and having recovered from a triple bypass but we just think that fate put us together to guide and help each other through these rough times. I don't have any children but Roy has a daughter and 2 sons and we have 4 grandchldren. We have been married for 10 years this year and despite the troubles and bad pains etc these are the happiest days of my life. Now I will shut up. You will probably have got bored of reading by halfway through but for anyone who makes it to the end then thanks for listening to me. Suzy :)

Hi Suzy and welcome to the forum. :)

Here is a link to the advice which the forum monitors, Ken and Sue, often post for new T2s and whilst you are not newly diagnosed I think you will find it to be a big help.

Have a good read round the various threads and if you have questions just ask away as there are normally folk around happy to help. :)
