Just some questions

Hi everyone. I just have some questions I’ve been wondering about.
1- is a fasting blood glucose reading of 4 to 5 normal? Last few weeks mine has always been between that, but mostly closer to 4.
2- is it normal for black coffee with 1/2 a sweetener to raise my blood sugar from 4.4 to about 6.4 within 2 hours and having consumed nothing else?
3- when I test my blood sugar before a meal, then take my novorapid and test again 2-3 hours after a meal it usually reads pretty well the same, sometimes a little lower afterwards, yet 5 hours later it is way up. As an example it may be around 6 before and 2-3 hours after the meal but 10 five hours later.
4- is it normal to feel light headed and nauseous and disoriented when blood sugar goes below 5.5? This has been happening to me for the last month.

I was just diagnosed last July and had a rough start getting my numbers under control. December was especially bad where I couldn’t get a reading under 15 no matter how little I ate or how much medication I took. As of January 9th, my numbers have greatly improved and are mostly between 4.5 and 8. I am on 4x500 metformin a day, 28 units of levemir, and 2 units of novorapid per serving of carbohydrates. I also think I must have had high numbers for at least 10 years, because I had always been very thirsty wich stopped once i was diagnosed back in July and started medication.
Thank you for any answers or advice anyone has, it is greatly appreciated. I am still learning everyday.

  1. Yes. Although those on insulin would be best advised to aim to be waking slightly higher to avoid nocturnal hypos.
  2. Some people can find caffeine can raise blood sugar
  3. What is the question here? You could be raising later than 2 hours because of the pizza effect or because of gluconogenesis, depending on what you are eating. Or the raise could be due to insufficient basal.
  4. If you're feeling hypo symptoms at 5.5 that's a false hypo.
Any reason why this is posted in the type 1.5/LADA forum? Your avatar says you're type 2 and the

When I made this account I couldn’t find the option to pick type 1.5, and I have no clue how to change it.

I'm on a desktop, so might be different on a smartphone. On the top right, click on your name. Scroll down a bit and you'll find the form where you submit personal information. It has a drop down menu where you can either choose 1,5 or LADA (or la lot of other types of course).
