Just something that made me laugh...

So... This has happened a few times, I wear an insulin pump (omnipod) and occasionally it beeps. When this happens people look around in my general direction to locate the source. If I can't be bothered explaining why I have just beeped, I pretend to look as well. I don't know why but it just tickles me! Does anyone else do this or is it just me?

Has anyone noticed you wearing a pod yet Sarah? My sister-in-law asked my wife why I was wearing a plaster on my arm when we were out for a meal at Christmas
 
Yeah, quite a few people have asked me! I work with children too so they always ask me! I usually reply with, "it's medicine."
I can't believe No one has ever looked, it's happened to me quite a few times! Happened to me in a lift full of people once!
 
I use the Medtronic 640G and Enlite sensor. When I get an alert, a red light flashes and you can see it under some of my clothes. I've had some strange looks when that happens.
 
That's a fab idea - my Insight vibrates and plays tunes when it needs my attention - sounds a bit like a ring tone - might have a curious look around next time it starts off when I'm in company! LOL @Sarahkylie88 !

I felt like a silly sausage last weekend, with a Libre sensor on each arm when I was at the gym (I insert a new one 36 hours before activating, so every second Saturday I'm wearing two sensors) - I'm well used to wearing one now, but last weekend was the first that I was in short sleeves with TWO sensors!

Am getting progressively more blasé about my various bits of stuck-on gadgetry, and so far (pump since Oct, usually hidden in belt around chest; Libre since Feb, mostly under long sleeves) no questions from anyone. I wouldn't mind too much if somebody did ask, though, I don't think.

 
LOL -- I don't wait for people to notice -- I tell everyone -- shop assistants , random callers at the front door , people in the seat next to me in the theatre------- ( are you all getting the picture )
I also uncover it for all to see

Children are very inquisitive and not frightened to ask a question

They aren't afraid to ask questions! I tell them more or less depending on the age of the child and how interested they actually are! Normally knowing that it's medicine suffices! Some of the kids that have known me longer ask more questions and I don't mind them asking and I tell them all they want to know!



Hahaha @himtoo I do talk about it to some people just when you can't be bothered! If someone asked if tell but sometimes when u feel u can get away I take the easy option that never fails to make me giggle!!
 
Yeah @Snapsy I'm fairly blasé too! I bet some people did wonder with all your gadgetry on! Haha! X

My granddaughter aged 8 gets the children's Aquila mag (excellent) and it had a good article about diabetes so we've had some very straight, factual discussions about why I inject and seeing me inject is fine with her.

I was so worried about it all though when I started on both pump and Libre. But I'm proud to care much less much than I'd feared. The double-sensor issue DID feel odd last weekend, having one of each arm on show for the first time, and d'you want to hear something REALLY daft? I got in a right state about the next time I would have two on - which will be next weekend at the Animas sports weekend.

Yes, at an event full of many other type 1s, all in sporty short sleeves! Of all the occasions for that NOT to look or feel out of place, that will be it!

When chatting to my elderly neighbour my CGM alarmed and she thought it was one of the many gadgets in her car alarming so I just said oops sorry I'm alarming So when ever I'm giving her a hand with anything she always asks how alarming am I going to be today
 
I was absolutely mortified a week or so ago I was at a friend of the family's funeral, obviously you always make sure your phone is on silent etc but its never ever crossed my mind about my pump making a noise. The church was absolutely silent and my pump decided to alert me I had a low battery, BEEP BEEP BEEP, bit like a loud text, I looked around as other people did pretending I didn't know what it was, it happens every 15 minutes until you acknowledge it, so 3 times it happened during the service, I played dumb each time, I was MORTIFIED!!! Lol
 
i went straight for the "funny button" and did not pass the "go" ( hug button) on the way
