Just Started New FAST Acting INSULIN “ Lyumjev “ Any Help Please

My insulin has been changed from novo rapid to

Fast acting lyumjev I know Timings are a bit deferent for each person

But could Anyone tell me

How long it’s active in the body

When on average it peaks once injected

Does it react different if you inject bigger doses

say if your Blood sugars were High or meal high in carb’s &

How long it lasts when out of fridge

I had my insulin changed just before Xmas & having a hard time getting things right.

Don’t know if it’s new insulin & what time I’m injecting it or the food itself

It being Xmas & some bits of food different to my normal intake

(Using a disposable junior ½ unit pen so I can match my ratios to my old novo echo pen)

Any input about the new insulin lyumjev would be a big help

I’m getting lost

Been on novo for a very long time only changed because I was told it taking way too long to lower level down after a meal

Still struggling a bit with new insulin if you’re on Lyumjev insulin

Any info would be appreciated

Insulin does not seem to work as well if I have a bigger injection

Or if I eat food like Bread with a slower absorption rate with a meal

Blood levels drop or keeps at a good level after meal for a bit

But then hits the roof after Lyumjev has worn off (stopped working)

Will I have to split injection each time I eat Bread
 
Hmm, I'm using boring old humalog but I may be able to make a few suggestions.

Some questions
1) What type of diabetes do you have : T1, T2, T3c or something else? (This matters because you may or may not be making your own insulin and/or be having a lot of insulin resistance
2) do you also take a long acting insulin?
3) have you tried recalculating your insulin ratio since changing insulins?

My understanding is that pizza is renowned for its delayed action but I didn't think bread alone was that bad.
 
Thank you for your reply I’m type 1 been so for over 40 years

Also on long acting insulin this was also changed recently (1 month ago)

From 1 x 24hr Tresiba to

2 x 12hr Levemir

I Have had to change Ratios but it’s a real hit or miss

If it looks like it’s working 1 day the next day with same Carbs, approx. same test.

The level go up & up

Hmm. How confident are you that you've got the levemir right? Also, do you have any issues with injection sites and lipohypertrophy, which can interfere with insulin absorption?
 
Injection sites as far as I can tell are ok NO Lumps or irritations

Not confident that I’ve got the levemir right but before changing onto Lyumjev

Levels with levemir & novo rapid were pretty good it’s just it took a long time for Levels to Drop
after food with novo rapid & was asked to try Lyumjev
 
Hi I am on Levemir and Fiasp. Fiasp is a lot quicker than Novorapid but my nurse mentioned Lyumjev is supposed to peak even quicker. I know Fiasp is supposed to work in 15 mins although I have to wait 30 mins. I have been on Levemir a couple of years and find I do have to tweak it quite a bit depending on the weather, if I am doing more, tired, decorating……! Changing the timing of my evening Levemir to 6pm helps with any spiking after dinner. Levemir kicks in about 2-4 hrs after injecting and I was told starts to tail off after 18hrs which is I think why many nurses tell people to split the dose. Must have been very hard making two insulin changes at once!
 
For me it was ( is ) especially after being on the same regime for so long

& like many others because of covid getting hold of anybody at my Diabetic clinic to help is imposable add to that Xmas

Hi everyone, I've been a diabetic for 43 years and have had several types of insulin over that period. I had been using Fiasp on my Medtronic pump, but it's effectiveness had dwindled quite considerably, making it almost a guessing game when infusing. My Consultant offered me a go on Lyumjev and I have found it to be incredibly responsive and accurate for my carb ratios. I am writing this while on an All Inclusive in Crete and have really pushed my limits on food intake and yes maybe alcohol as well, but I have to say that it has handled my control quite admirably. My B.S. control has also improved from 86% of the time within target range to 92%. So that's my take on Lyumjev and just hope that it is as effective with as it has been with me.
 
Hi Gary, can I ask what Insulin Action Time you are using with Lyumjev, also with the Fiasp and whatever previous insulin you used. I'm on Humalog and have now got some Lyumjev to ty out with my Medtronic pump so am considering how to set it up.
