hi I have just been changed from levimir and novo rapid to mixtard M3
How many hours apart am I suppose to have injections? And what do I do about eating in between meals?

That's an unusual switch !
Your diabetes HCP should really have discussed this with you, as it's quite different from your previous regime . The dosages and timing varies from person to person, and you need to be vigilant about testing , so I doubt that anyone here can advise you on this.

Speak to your diabetes team ASAP before starting to switch over.

Why have you been changed ?

It's because my levels were not controlled well with the 4 injections a day and is better controlled on two a day

I was only on a mix for a few months but it is very tricky with things like in between meals and snacks etc because you are only injecting at 2 meals and can't adjust the amount of short acting without adjusting the long acting (and vice versa) I used to take them before breakfast and dinner but because breakfast was about 8am and dinner about 5pm the dinner dose was running out before the breakfast dose. If I snacked in the evening or ate more carbs (or less) there was nothing I could do to try and keep levels in check. If a mix works better for you that's great, but you do need to be sticking to schedule and same amounts of carbs at each meal to keep things even.

I hope that is the case for you, I'd look at the T2 threads and how they 'eat to their meter' with carbs per meal, with a set dose, I would handle my BG this way.

given that you have been on insulin, you will have a good idea of it all
we can't give advice, but google may tell you you take the injection before your breakfast and before your even meal

I used twice daily insulin for about 26yrs and didnt have any real problems with controlling my bg levels as I didnt mind eating carb at set times during the day. The way to get the best out of twice daily regimes is to eat on the little but often route rather than huge amounts in one go and just test bg levels to see what effect the carb eaten has on controlling. Pick a sensible bg target from the NICE guidelines
