Hi, first post - looking for some advice.

I was diagnosed 3 years ago, spent a year trying desperately to control my diet, then given Metformin SR. It took a little while to get the dosage right but eventually I took 1x500mg in the morning and 2x500mg in the evening for a year and my HbA1c came right down to 40 - happy days :-) I had more energy and didn't feel starving hungry 24/7. My weight (always an issue) was coming down.

On the back of the 40 reading (in November 2014) my DSN insisted that I drop my Metformin to 1x500mg in the evening and I've been feeling bad ever since. My appetite shot back up, weight started to creep back and I'm up 3 times a night to pee. I got my HbA1c checked again at the end of February and it had gone up to 50 but the DSN was happy with that and totally unsympathetic to my symptoms.

So I'm trying harder than ever with my diet, cutting back on carbs, and I bought myself a meter. My after dinner results (2hrs after eating) have been averaging 9.5.

My fasting result this morning was 6.9 and I ate very little yesterday. I'm feeling fed-up and annoyed with my DSN who I feel has let me have a year of feeling good then pulled the rug out from under me. Am I being irrational? Is the DSN right to restrict my Metformin? What should I be doing next?

Cheers, Al

I've cut my carbs way back, but I can't eat much fat because I had my gallbladder removed 20 years ago, so I still feel hungry a lot of the time. I'm just wondering if there's a reason why the DSN might've insisted on dropping my Metformin when it was working nicely?
