Hi
Yesterday I started my low carb diet n managed to have 90g all day which I no is still a bit high but I thought I'd do it slowly. Anyway I went to bed with reading of 14.9 lowest I've had since testing. I was pleased. But this morning I've got highest of first thing tests of 15.9! Could this b cause I've not eaten enough? Normal first readings r 12.5- 14.5 not gd I no.
Got docs this am as my sick note runs out 2moz n not sure if I can face work yet after all me n my body have bn through this last 4 wks but we will see cause I feel ill n doopy in the ams.
Any words of wisdom would b greatly received
Many thanks

Hi sorry to hear you are still not feeling well.

I am no expert on low carb, only just getting my head round it all myself, but from what I've read it can take a while for your readings to start going down once you start low carbing.

I'm sure someone who knows more about these things will be along soon but I'd just say keep it up for a while and see what happens and just take it all at your own pace.

You readings will always be higher in the morning due to your body pumping you with glucose to get you started for the day. This will lower as you get more used to low carbing. I do 20g to 35g carbs per day and my levels in the morning are usually between 6.9-7.4, this morning it was 6.0.

It will get better.

How to get to only eat that many as they r in everything mostly. I can't up my fat tho so have to have low fat as I've had my gall bladder removed n a hiatus hernia . I'm still waiting to diet nurse :(. I'm sick of feeling so ill n not human for most of the day now.
Thanks

Its protein you need, but also olive oil on your salads and cooking with it. That shouldn't be too bad on your health. In fact if you google gall bladder diet it recommends that you don't eliminate all fat from your diet.

There are plenty of things you can eat that are low carb including salads and vegetables. Yes it is a balancing act between carbs, fat and protien, but you don't have to go overboard with the fat. You can cut out loads of carbs by dropping bread, pasta, rice and potatoes.

It takes a while for your new diet to kick in blackcat. Some people can take more than a month. Your morning reading could have been higher because you are ill.

I started very low carbing. Sometimes as little as 10 gs a day. I do have more now, but still aim to have 30 to 40, but I do hard exercise these days, which has made me feel I can be a bit more liberal.
