Hi I was diagnosed as t2 last april . My HbAIc was then 49 . Since then I have succeeded in losing weight, taking more exercise, sticking to a GI diet and generally looking after myself.
Recent blood tests my HbA1c was down to 43.
I was put on 40mg simvastatin,
2.5 mg Ramipril as this is the usual procedure guideline when becoming t2.

All this is good news. BUT my blood pressure has become high! 160/80 which my GP says is too high. GP has gradually increased my Ramipril to 5 mg but this only lowered my BP to 155/80.
He has ordered more blood tests and put me on 10 mg Ramipril.
Does anyone else have this trouble with High BP? Can't understand what is causing this.

Hi

I was started on 10mg of ramipril and am now also on amlodopine and doxazosin (having recently stopped bendroflumethiazide) to get my blood pressure down. I have just measured it and it is 130/75, which is a bit higher than usual for me, but I am happy with that to decrease the risk of retinopathy and other complications.

Regards

Doug

I'm on the max dose of Ramipril of 10mg and am also taking Zemtard 180mg in addition to reduce my BP... it's still high at 155 over 105 but way less than when I originally present myself for high BP...

Milehouse, your gp may also put you on a water tablet to reduce your bp if it doesn't start to come down on it's own.

There's a few things you can do to help reduce bp, losing weight is a must if your overweight, stopping smoking and only drink alcohol in moderation, exercise each day, reduce the salt in your diet and decrease the stress in your life are just a few which are beneficial. I would suggest you buy a home BP monitor so that you can keep an eye on your bp at home and record your levels and present them to your gp, sometimes people can suffer from 'White Coat Hypertension' (Google it) when attending their gp clinic so checking your own at home will be useful to your gp.

Hi Thanks for your input.
My BMI is 25. I don't smoke. (never have) I don't drink alcohol. I dog walk every day for at least 2 hours. I watch my intake of salt. I don't have any stress. (I'm a retired Housewife!) In fact I'm quite boring! lol
I have got a homw BP monitor and my BP has always been low. Avg. about 130/65.
It seem when I go to the GP my BP rises. So maybe it is "WCH" as you suggest!

But I thought logically that if I occasionally do "spike" then I need meds to keep those Spikes down to a lower level. (Maybe they could cause a stroke or Heart attack?! )

Anyhow I have blood tests next week after 2 weeks on 10mg Ramipril. Then to see the GP for another BP check.
Will let you know how I get on.

Thanks for your concern

Hi All
I took my BP machine to the GP .. I measured my BP on it ...OMG my BP was 189/86 Pulse 85... My GP then took my BP on his monitor and my BP was reading was down 179/82 Pulse 82...

I took my readings of the previous month from home on a scrap of paper and proved to my GP that in an home environment my BP was always low... Avg being 127/67 pulse 55!
I was diagnosed with white coat hypertension! How strange is that!

My Ramipril has been lowered to5mg per day.. I was feeling woosey on 10 mg.

Anyhow I don't have to go to that GP for another year as I get checked regularly with the diabetic clinic.
