having added a bombardment of questions in my 1st post just wondering
I want to know if being so exhausted to the point of if breathing was not an automatic reflex I wouldn't have the energy to do it is part and parcel of diabetic-hood? My blood sugar is still all over the place thankfully usually under 9.0 but still up and down I am battling a bit trying to find out which food group causing high spikes but think carbs. Are the main culprits my local practise nurse nearly passed out when I said the hospital advised testing my bloods 3 X a day until I knew what caused what and said two or three times a week was ample to test. (I have bought myself test stripes )
It is the extreme lack of energy that is really dragging me down will that get better as I gain more control of my diabetis? Someone please say yes!!!!
I am taking Metaformin 800 three times a day
Glicazade 80 once a day
Lisinopril 10mg once a day for high blood pressure which is not working to well at the moment
Amitriptyline and hydromorhone at night for chronic back pain
Cheers

YES

after getting on the Low Carb lifestyle, I have soooo much more energy!!! Its all the sugar highs and dips, that make you tired. If you get you BG stable you do away with the peaks and troughs that make you tired.

I cant eat bread, pasta, rice or potatos. And test away, its the only way you can get in control!!!!!! Good Luck and Happy New Year.

Hi and welcome to the forum. For some reason DNs seem to have inherent dislike of their patients testing themselves and getting control of their own blood glucose levels! However it's the only way that we can decide what is best for us as individuals and what food we can/cannot eat as what suits one of us may have a completely different effect on someone else eg I count myself as being lucky because I can tolerate carbs such as bread, porridge and potatoes whereas somebody else will not be able to. As you are on Glicazade did they give you a meter and strips on prescription?

Although many posters say they have diabetes related lack of energy it's not something I have experienced thru all my highs and lows. I suspect for some it is sometimes related to being a bit depressed after the diagnosis, a shock for all of us, and possibly due to other condtions and meds. The NHS has got into the habit of not recommending testing due to strip cost and not due to the basic need. I was on 360mg of Gliclazide for years and never offered a meter but there again it never took me near to a hypo as my islet cells were obviously dead. You will find it's the carbs that raise your blood sugar and we each find some are worse than others. I guess you may have already spotted that a low-carb diet is the way forward and your meter will prove it.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE
thanks for replying to my post, as much as I hate to say it low carbs seems to be the way to go, every cupboard I open in the kitchen is full of carbs grinning at me!!!!!
Seriously tho I'm going to have to get to grips with what I can/carnt eat carbwise via testing
On the up note I have bought myself a page a day diary to record the highs and lows I always admire the new diaries but have never had reason to buy one so I guess that is a positive.
One thing I have very mixed feelings about since my local clinic nurse has said I will never have a hypo because my blood sugars are high has me sort of thinking great I'm so lucky so it doesn't matter to much if I don't keep my bs under control
I do know that the hidden dangers you can't see happening are extremely serious because you can't see what is happening.does this make sense to anyone else?
My pain meds probably do need reviewing especially the amitriptyline because over winter I do increase the dose because the cold does play havoc with my pain so I will wait until the warmer weather and then see my dr
Thanks again for taking the trouble to reply to my ramblings

Hi and Welcome. For me it was def. the carbs. My breathing is better than its been since my early 40's and my use of an inhaler has completely dissappeared in two months. At 62 you are a young bloke I'm only just about 3 yrs behind you. I never thought I could feel this good again. Just back from my near 5 mile walk, jog, sprint. BRING IT ON 2015 and good luck with your aim of avoiding INSULIN.
