Hi all

questions for type 1's please.

I generally low carb targeting between 50 and 100g but I am trying to go back to the start and get back into ketosis. However i have forgotten some basic things.
1) how long dos it take to get into ketosis on 20-30g carb per day?
2) say you have had your carbs limit for the day and you have a hypo and have to correct will this throw you out of ketosis? I realise this wont necessarily just as a one off but if it happens on a couple of days or more?
3) if you go into ketosis for a few days and then increase carbs up to say 50g will you definitely go out of ketosis or can you say there at that sort of level?

Also any thought on the best way to correct a hypo in ketosis would be appreciated or do you all just use your normal treatment? (jelly beans etc)

Hello there :) There are some T1s doing low carb diet including me to achieve good BS level (and for me I’m just too lazy to carb count and maybe don’t trust carb counting that much... ) but there aren’t many who low carb to be in ketosis. Why do you want to be in ketosis?

I think eating less than 30g carbs a day is quite strict. I don’t eat pasta potatoes rice bread etc but I probably eat up to 50g carbs from veggies. Do you really need to be so strict when you have insulin to lower BS.

If I have a minor hypo and if it’s not from overdosing of fast acting insulin, I’ll probably eat 2g of glucose tab and be very careful not taking too many carbs... but being in ketosis is the last thing I would be thinking about :-D
