Keto Diet



Please don't forget that the main reason you believe that it is healthy to eat lots of fruit and vegetables , low fat and plenty of fibre, is precisely because that is what you have been told for years. The very same years when everyone got fat and ill.

As a result of that advice a couple of things have happened :

People do not generally like " fruit" - what they do like is " sugar" - the result is that most " fruit" we are now sold bears no relation to the fruit of our ancestors - instead it has been engineered to become a sugar bomb - these pictures illustrate the point

The same is also true of many vegetables - for example recent adverts about bird's eye peas -" the sweetest yet" So please don't feel too guilty about reducing your level of fruit and veg. compared to public health messages. These messages do not reflect the changing nature of the fruit and veg.

Vilification of red mea
Low fat -, low sat fat -little red meat we have been taught about this for so long its hard to get one's head around it at all . Its important to understand that actually most of this bears very little relation to the actual content of foods - for example see an analysis of red meat below .

Initially you will feel that the diet is very restrictive , that's inevitable when one is cutting out the vast majoirty of the stuff for sale in supermarkets, however if you do have a go at the dietdoctor.com recipes ( or those available here) there are certainly some lovely recipes to try.

That is really helpful. I still feel it’s “wrong” to eat so much fat. Surely this will clog my arteries. However I’m ignoring my gut feeling and carrying on because I’m now mostly in the “green” on the mysugr app that I installed. 5, 6 and sevens. I love the coconut porridge on diet doctor and have it most mornings. I have noticed that sometimes my blood sugar is higher first thing in a morning before eating or drinking anything than it was the night before after my dinner.... how come?

Dawn Phenomenon..

It's most likely the dawn phenomenon where your liver releases extra glucose into your blood to give you a boost to get up.. bit like a natural alarm call. When you have a lot of excess glucose (which most Type 2's have on the early days) you might get an extra boost as the liver takes an opportunity to shove out a bit more to get rid of it. Of all the numbers its usually the last one to "normalise" .. of course we don't really know what normal FBG is because regular folks don't prick their fingers as soon as they get out of bed to test their blood sugar but I imagine nearly everyone gets it. There are a load of threads about it on the forum but to be honest it took about 6 months for mine to get down to regular levels so don't stress.
There are also various suggested things to help but I never bothered.. some people give up even testing it because it can be very volatile but I record it always and graph it (cos I have a spreadsheet!) and its quite nice to watch it slowly descend over time but if you find it disheartening then just pre meal and post meals are fine too. If you have breakfast of course then you'll be testing it anyway..
