Hi, At the end of August 2017 I was rushed off to hospital with Ketoacidosis. I was then put on a drip and given insulin. Until then I did not have diabetes (that I know of). I am now on 4 shots of insulin a day - 3 of Novo Rapid before meals and Lantus. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Thank you
 
Sounds awfully like your pancreas just packed up, resulting in DKA, and that was the beginning of your type one - same thing happened to me following a dose of gastric flu.
 
I would say that you was T1D before the ketoacidosis attack. Basically its when your body is not producing insulin to convert glucose into energy. Its pretty common with new Type 1 diabetics
 
Doctors reckon I had T1D for around 12 months before I got sick enough to realise there was an issue and go to my GP. Glucose levels off the scale of the doctor's monitor and high ketones. HBA1C of 148 when they took a blood sample in A&E.

I think its quite common with adults because we take longer to notice the beta cells dying off than young children.
 
feb 2017. at the young age of 59 i was rushed into hospital and put on a drip for 3 days. diagnosed with type 1
LADA. now have 3X novo rapid + 1Xlantus { evenings }. no other member of family to my knowledge have any form of diabetes. ketoacidosis blood of 54 not recommended. the hospital think i had a virus at some point.

Yes, I was exactly like you last July, rushed in following an appointment with the GP because I was thirsty, urinating more, Doc did a glucose test and it was 16 and ketones over 4. Came out of hospital on low doses of novarapid & insulin. My glucose levels dropped dramatically immediately after the drip and stayed low in the following months (inc 2s and 3s), to the point where for the last 2 months I haven't been on any insulin (they suspect the honeymoon period). I am still under the Consultant, they suspect type 1 (GAD was 'weak positive & C Peptide 'low end of normal', BMI 22, non smoker, non drinker) - but they still say it is not definitive. I also had high cholesterol and high BP so they said I was showing signs of type 2 as well - now that is NOT fair.
 
Thank you all for the information. When I was in the hospital they all said I was type 1. However when I saw the Consultant 4 months after he said he did not know what I was and it did not matter as I was on insulin and would have to stay on it.
I hate the smell of the insulin as well.
