Hi

I'm following a low carb diet since being diagnosed on New Years Eve & have managed to drop my Bg's from 18.4 to 5.9 assisted by 2x500g of metformin.

As I'm low carbing I have gone into ketosis & am therefore showing ketones in my urine.. am I right in thinking that as my Bg's have come down & as long as they stay stable the ketones are purely due to low carbing??

Is this safe & acceptable for a T2?

Sorry still on a learning curve!

As long as ketones arent accompanied by high bg , which is signal of chronic lack of insulin, then you should not worry about this- diabetically wise.

Ketones are a by product of low carbing, starvation, evident in pregnancy and ketosis is different from Diabetic Ketoacidosis which is particulare to those who dont have ANY insulin, most T1s, so as a T2 you are not really at risk from this

Well done on the drop in bg by the way.

Not saying that I am right or wrong, but both my gp and diabetes consultant advice is to avoid both at all times. As we know, people with diabetes have a increased chance of kidney disease, hence why the above advice is given.
