Hey I have a sickness bug, been monitoring ketones they are 0.5 however have increased to this from 0.2 this morning. My sugar has been 8/9 all day. Why are they increasing and is it possible for them to rise to a dangerous level even when my sugars aren’t high

Thanks

Okay, so I don't know this for certain so don't take this as fact, but you might not be eating enough? During illness the body needs much more energy to fight the infection, and though you're keeping your sugars at a good level, the energy the insulin is providing might not be enough?

Like I said, could be wrong, but just going off of my scientific logic.

Yeah I think that’s it! I drank more water and ate and they came back down, just woken up with the same issue again this morning. So guess just need to keep eating as normal and it’ll pass after a few days when the bugs gone.

Thanks!

However in another post I was told to not even test when my sugars are this low, yet do you know if ketones can still be dangerous when sugars are low and not climbing

No problem :) and my guess would be to keep testing. Currently your levels of ketones are not dangerous, but I'm pretty sure their dangerousness (couldn't think of a better word) is not linked to the level of blood sugar. If they are present in the blood, they will turn the blood more acid regardless of the levels of blood glucose. Just keep eating and testing, it's better to be safe than sorry with those little *******.

Hope you recover soon :)

Also, make sure you drink lots to flush those keytones out. Like I said, not a dangerous level, but better to reduce them as much as you can :)

Yeah I’m making sure to drink plenty of water andeating plenty. I only get 10 test strips in each prescription for ketones and I have 2 left until Wednesday so trying to only test if I feel actually ill. Thanks for any help
