When I checked my urine this morning for ketones I was in an average ketonic state. immediately afterwards (without any breakfast) I went for a brisk 2.5 mile walk. I checked my urine again when I got back expecting that I would be more ketonic than before as a result of burning fat to fuel my walk, but bo, there were no ketones at all in my urine. Can anyone explain this please?
Having read the information I'm more confused than ever. I'm a T2 and following a low carb diet (reduced my Hbac1 from 9.7 on diagnosis to 6 after 6 weeeks). This article seems to me to suggest that ketosis is a bad thing for diabetics while I would have thought that burning fat , (thus producing ketones)if you are overweight , as i am, would be a very good thing.
I'm not suggesting you should follow it, as I dont believe in it, but have a look at the Atkins diet... the presence of ketones in the urine is promoted with this diet and is a sign that you are burning fat...
It's not necessary to follow the Atkins diet if you want to lose fat. Any diet that results in you consuming less carbs that you need for energy will result in burning fat and producing ketones. What that level is will vary from person to person, but it is calculated that the average person (whoever he or she is) needs around 50g carbs per day to meet their energy requirements. But the important thing is that the figure is an average. I might burn fat at 80g and you might need 150g.
