Hi
Hi
My older teen Is under metabolic team as they have ketotic hypoglycaemia. A recent blood test shows very high c peptide readings of over 3000, insulin levels of 427pmol/l and a normal HbA1c levels. This wasn’t a fasting blood test and was just after lunch. Also raised uric acid. As is standard with these appointments, another one isn’t booked until June and no one has followed up on these blood test results with us. I am not sure what this means as this seems to indicate insulin resistance but they cant go low carb as if they do they produce ketones and their blood glucose drops. Any ideas?
@Christina23 and welcome to our forum.
I have heard of child ketotic hypoglycaemia (KH) but it is usually for under tens.
Not in older children nor adults.
There are many forms of Hypoglycaemic conditions, including the one I have.
I would really press for more tests and Astor a referral to a specialist endocrinologist who has experience in hypoglycaemic conditions. It is not acceptable to have such results and not see you before June.
It is unusual to have tests after food. I
For hypoglycaemia it is imperative to be in fasting levels from the night before.
What other tests has your son had?
Was the one you mentioned a mixed meal test?
I produce too much insulin, it is in response to certain foods.
Many other hypoglycaemic conditions are effected by other metabolic imbalance.
But it is not rare to have excess insulin in the blood, a lot of T2s have insulin resistance as well as high glucose, for example.
Have you been given meds?I
or dietary recommendations?
or other conditions that might make it complicated?
it must be horrible for your son and you.
Best wishes.
