Kidney Transplant and Type 1

A relative of mine 2 weeks ago was diagnosed with Type 1, after almost collapsing with sugar levels of 24. At the same time he was diagnosed with pancreatites. After spending almost 2 weeks in hospital he was sent home last week when his levels were still between 14 and 24. Today he started being sick again and his levels went to 32. The doctor sent him straight back to hospital. He has a futher complication in that he had a kidney transplant last year so has been told that they need to make sure that his medication works along side the insulin.
Could someone please explain to me whether there are differnent types of insulin and would anyone know what would be the best for someone who has had a kidney transplant? (not sure what typr of insulin he is on but he takes 28 on a morning and 24 on a night).
Also would it be normal to be sent out of hospital with readings of between 14 and 24?
If anyone has had a kidney transplant and Type 1 could they offer any advice and information?
The relative has a yellow look to him and doesn't look well at all. He states that he has blurred vision and back ache.
Any information/advice would be welcome and appreciated
 
Nobody on this Forum is a HCP. We are just Diabetic's who help each other with advice where we can. To be perfectly honest I cannot see any way of advising you with all the complications that you have listed.

The only person who is qualified to answer those questions is a specialist such as an Endocrinologist, someone who is expert in the workings of the Human Body. I can only advise you to discuss this with such a person.

The drugs your relative is on to counter anti-rejection etc may have an effect on his diabetes. This would need to be looked into by a doctor, perhaps an Endocrinologist.

Could you please explain to me what HCP is?
The specialists at the hospital have said that it could have possibily been the anti rejection drugs which has brought the diabetes on and have changed him onto some new drugs.
He will be seeing his specialist again this week.
 
HCP means a Health Care Professional, Dr, Nurse, Specialist etc. Glad to hear that he will be seeing a Specialist. That honestly is the best place to get all the answers.

If there is anything else we may be able to help with please ask.....we know our limitations.

As Ken an Sue pointed out concerning your main part of your post has to be answered by the HCP..

But your Question concerning insulin types..

There are quite a few different types of insulin's

Quick acting, Long acting and pre-mixed of both quick and long acting... These are manufactured b 3 main compaines, each company having a slightly different make-up of there insulin..

i.e 2 main backgorund/long acting insulin's commonly used

Levimer (lilly) and Lantus (advantas (sp))

These two have slightly different PH balance to them, and both have a slitghtly different profile, Lantus being a flatter profile with a shorter tail off..

Both are promoted to last 24 hours (so can be injected once a day)

As you seen plenty to chose from..
