My Gp told me I have reduced kidney function. The DSN said he's daft and I don't and it's just age.
T1 has Chronic Kidney disease and attends the "low Clearance Renal Clinic" at the hospital. Recently theu prescribed erythropoetin for anaemia( which costs an arm and a leg and arrives by refrigerated courrier van)
When he dropped in on the renal nurses, to ask about when to take it, firstly they told him they need to teach him to inject himself. He told them he's been doing just that for 53 years. then they checked his notes and found his Iron is now up to the target they would have aimed for using the epo.
The doctor thinks they made a mistake and the anaemia was caused by infection and inflammation and not by the kidneys. I can't find anything which says anaemia can be caused that way, but they won't even consider that better BG control could have helped. He's had his best HbA1c ever, 6.8%, so he's now one of the 48% of diabetics in the PCT's care who has an Hba1c below target( <7.5%)
It's been done by reducing carbs AND insulin. Now we need to reduce his blood pressure 180/80 and weight 17 stones. We need to work on those carbs.Jogging is out of the question on 2 Charcot feet.
