Lack of energy

I wish I had this little patch of info ten yrs ago! But I guess some people have to reach rock bottom before they reach out! (Yeah, that's me.)

For me, it was D3 - can't believe the difference in my energy levels once I was diagnosed as deficient and put on supplements. It was like someone turned on a light switch.

Hi everyone,
My name is Alan i am fairly new to the forum and been type two diabetic for around 15 years.
I paid for a Gastric sleeve 13 months ago and I lost over 5 stone in the first 5 months but the weight loss has now stopped, the problem I have now is that I have no energy or strength especially in my legs they feel like they are going to give way on me constantly. Has anybody been through or experienced this problem and can give me some advice on why this occurs and how to remedy the problem.

Alan
I would go back to the Dr and ask about some blood tests to check everything. I would also ask for a dietitian because from what I read, the calories are increased as you go after bariatric surgery.

well done on your weight loss. are you getting near your target weight and don't have enough fat left to metabolise? I'm wondering if you are getting enough energy from your food?

a lot of T2 here are on the low carb higher fat diet where they reduce the carbs and replace the lost energy with healthy fats and I know that goes against what we have been taught for the last 50 years.
have a watch of this video and see what you think
"Dr Eric C. Westman, MD and president elect of the American Society of Bariatric Physicians, has 15 years of experience helping patients lose weight and improve their health using low carb. He has also helped do several high-quality scientific studies on low carb."

Thanks Jack appreciate it, I am currently 1.5 Stone away from my target weight of between 14-14.5 Stone but I am very interested in what you say about my fat levels and possibly not having enough fat left to metabolize.

if I were new to low calorie or even low carb, I would just include more fats/olive oils but given that you have been dieting for a while, other factors like vitamin or mineral deficiencies may come into it. It is why I would see a DR and dietitian (even though the dietitian may be against higher fat..it's NHS )

There is still a bit to go with your weight. some of us dieters find weight loss slows down as you get closer to the target. and need to add some fat for energy, adding carb may throw you out of fat burning
from the stats, most people find their T2 disappears after the op, was this the case for you?

my sister had the lap-band and had good results so far, relapsing in to old eating patterns can be a problem too.
I don't know if it's too early to find your carb tolerance levels yet? but I would be looking at getting a way of eating that I can live with for the rest of my life and LCHigherF is one option. it's going back to what grandma use to cook, meat and 3 veg with a dollop of butter.

Yes Jack I have had my medication for T2 reduced significantly over the last 4 months and also some blood pressure tablets I have lost so all good on that front. This problem I noticed first when my weight loss slowed and then stopped so I am now thinking that what you said about the lack of fat could be the problem.

I'm glad your t2 is settling down a bit for you:)
if the blood tests are clear and your vitamin and minerals are in balance. I would ask your Dr opinion on a ketogenic diet, it is possible that you have put too many carbs back into your diet and could be a reason your weight loss is slowing too. With some insulin resistant people, even 50g of carbs a day can stop weight loss. where as some people can eat 300g of carb and be fine.

I think that is what happened to me. I was just so fed up and desperate that I took drastic measures, since I would literally fall asleep after eating a slice of bread. And doctor would just shake his head and says he doesn't know where my fatigue is coming from. . Thanks for some good info. I'm not as crazy as I thought, Lol.

Before I started on the forum I also thought I was loosing the plot especially when I asked the doctor why I was feeling this way he would look at me funny as if I was lying and just send me for more blood tests (I think I lost more weight doing that many blood tests).
I have learned more from the members on this forum than anything that I have recieved from my doctor and I am sure I will benefit from this information from the forum. Thanks
