Just checking who my fellow Addisonians are. Someone posted recently who had Addisons as well as Type 1. Was it @CarbsRok?

I was just wanting to check to see how Addison's Disease affects blood sugars etc. and what it's like living with both diseases.

Hi I have both, Addisons first and then LADA much more recently. The steroids can make bloods run higher but so can everything else. I'm lucky in that my addisons is very stable so I have to say the diabetes is much harder work for me.

Hi @Books1. Always good to meet other Addisonians, given such a rare disease (not that you'd wish it on anyone, mind!). My Addisons is pretty stable too luckily, although the last year or so I've actually started to feel when my cortisol is low, which I haven't for previous 17 years. So far I've been lucky enough to avoid a crisis (touch wood - hope I'm not tempting fate) - the thought of a crisis is frightening enough, without the added burden of insulin dependant diabetes as well. Do you have Hashimoto's as well? I got that first, age 39, Addisons age 41. On 28-32mg HC per day, just about to start a small dose of Fludro, something I've not had to take before, which has always puzzled my doctors. Just trying it out as I've been feeling a bit tired lately.

I'm now 59 (tomorrow in fact) and my sugars have just gone into the pre-diabetic range, though I've been low carbing for the last 3 years since I had some insulin resistance, which appears to have gone now, and fasting insulin is relatively low. So I would think my sugars would be higher if I didn't. Found I had GAD antibodies about 4 years ago through routine testing because of other two diseases.

How are your fasting sugars? The endo told me the other day they can appear low as the morning low cortisol keeps them low until you've taken your meds.

Happy Birthday for tomorrow!
I'm on a much smaller dose of hydro 12.5 but on 1.5 of Fludrocortisone as well and I've only had one crisis when I was relatively inexperienced & ended up in hospital on a Greek island but was sorted & out again in less than 24 hours. I was first diagnosed with hypothyroid then Addison's fairly soon after and then much more recently with diabetes. I find the diabetes much more of a challenge as someone who was very keen on all the wrong things! I am trying to low carb and have good bs when I stick to it.
Have a great day tomorrow
Frances
