Hi all,

Don't have thrush but am "sore" after peeing!! Negative result when testing urine and nurse says, no thrush, no infection and no cystitis. Any ideas? This is getting me down. Also am still soooo tired despite keeping BG levels fair, am struggling with this **** thing. 5 weeks on does it get easier? I think maybe tablets would be inevitable.

Do you drink plenty fluids Chrissie? Strong acidic urine can make you sore.Did the nurse say anything about the acid content when she tested it?

Hi SS
No, she didn't actually. I usually guzzle an awful lot of water, diet drinks and tea but sometimes I can't and then it's worse. I m actually feeling quite depressed because I am trying really hard and am being careful and still I struggle to get my BG down after meals for hours. I had one small piece of madeira cake today at mums and 2 hrs later my BG was 13.8!! It has taken 5 hours and no more food to get it back to 8. Thats still too high isn't it?

Am also still very tired (diagnosed 6 weeks ago) and really emotional, especially at work where it is stressful. Am having a risk assessment done at work this week, uo to now they have beEN VERY unsupportive UNFORTUNATELY.!

Thanks, Chrissie

When the nurse tested was there sugar in your urine? With high levels like yours I wouldn't be surprised and the sugar would cause soreness.

Keep drinking the water. People really don't drink enough :? How much do you usually drink?

Exchanging notes with several friends who also occasionally get cystitis, we have found that the recommended water intake just isn't enough to flush everything out. We found that we had almost doubled the recommended daily intake of 1.5 litres before we noticed a big difference and that we needed to keep it at this level for at least a week after the symptoms went to prevent an almost immediate recurrence of the soreness. I think this is especially true in hot weather or you work in an air conditined building, like I do, as you lose more water.

There are some over the counter remedies that can help reduce the acidity, but you have to be careful as they may be contra-indicated if you have some medical conditions or take some forms of medication. However, I have found they can help at the first twinge.

For some forms of cystitis, the tests will come back negative. There are other tests they can run that leave the cells to culture for longer, but these are not standard tests.

This is a link I got from one of my favorite womens health resouces, "Our Bodies, Ourselves".

Thanks folks

Have been drinking lots of water and bought some cymalon sachets. My mum also told me about a spitz bath where you sit in cool water which you've swished a cup of salt in to, apparently it calms your bits down! It worked tho as Its gone off now thank god.
I rang the nurse about my BG levels and she told me to stop testing because its making me anxious and will drive my BG up?
Am drooling tho cos my hubbies sitting here guzzling a pkt of percy pigs from m&s!
