Hey Family !

Fellow T1D here. Was just wondering, I came across a very interesting topic the other day while having a conversation with my co worker. It was told to me that he changes his lancet once every week. So does this mean he literally does his finger sticks with the same lancet until he’s ready to change it ? Isn’t this dangerous ? I also know a few other T1s that also claim they don’t change their lancet everyday. Does anyone have an opinion on this ? Pros ? Cons ? Any opinions will be greatly appreciated .

Pros: No need to change lancets (annoying extra diabetes chore) or carry them.
Cons: Possibly a small risk of infection, after a while it may start to hurt more when pricking your finger.

Personally, I change lancets about once every 3 months or so (I average 3-4 pricks a day) and haven't had any ill effects, but I wouldn't advise doing that.
My DN said: "It's not my fingers, do whatever you like, you know the official advice."

They are supplied as single use. I change mine when they start to blunt and hurt.

Unless you use those Fastclix that come in a drum of six & all it takes to change is a flick of a switch..
Hey! I don't claim to be a saint. Even with a Fastclix I've been known to use more than once.
The slightly blunter they are with the depth setting to max for me in the cold, the easier it is to draw blood.. ;)

Pro: I use one lancet per fifty strips, so I dial in a new lancet once a week with my Fastclix

Cons: There are a a shedload of threads with the same topic about lancets.

Doesn't that mean you still have to change the drum every day if you only want to use each lancet once?

When it's time to change the drum. One removes the depth setting cover & pull out the lancet drum. It self sheaths & covers the used lancets when removed.

Who said I change the drum every day..? :D

Each drum contains six lancets, so if you test only once per lancet six or more times, you have to change the drum if you want to test more.

..& for clarity @Antje77 this video helps explain..

Of course my device also attaches to my meter as a "one stop shop."

I had a look at that one, but got a bluetooth meter called a Lifesmart LS-496 meter, which comes with a "medievil" lancing device instead.

The android app is very good, best blue tooth app I have seen for testing meters. ✓

Nice meter. :cool::)

I got sent for gratice a Bluetooth transmitter attachment for the Mobile which works with the MySugr app.?
But to be fair, since using the Libre sensor & now the Bluetooth Miaomiao combo.
I manually input meter data with regards to calibrating the XDrip app so it's all in one place..

Thus overal saving on lancet use... Though I still fingerprick at least 8 times a day backing up what the Libre says..

Hi,

How old was your co worker? If he is anything like me back in the olden daze. We had to re use needles on glass syringes..

It may just be his adopted style? ;)

Drawing blood & regular testing is paramount with BG management.
