type 2 for 20 plus years,take three Novarapid shots accompanied by Metformin with meals and one 106 Lantus shot at night and get great control,however recently had my Gallbladder out and the nurses had real issues with the amount of dosage of the Lantus (one even refused to give it to me!).

What is the average?Is this too high? What are the complications anyway?

Thought I was doing really well on this regime too... :(
 
For people who are insulin resistant for whatever reason, the doseage of Lantus that you mention is not that high. But obviously HCPs might think it is but then if they dont know too much about diabetes then youve got to excuse their lack of knowhow.

Its my guess that now that youve had your gallbladder out, you wont have bile entering your liver so with time your blood sugars will alter. Did you also have your bile duct removed as well?

Welcome to the forum Anno,
I would consider 106 units a high dose, I've been type-1 for 22 yrs and never been on a basal dose higher than about 44 units, and I'm no twiggy :( . Everyone is different, and as you know lots of factors affect how much insulin you need eg; weight, diet, physical activity, stress, etc .
Did the nurse not give you any inkling as to why she was concerned?
