Lantus high in morning

Type 2
I'm a 58 year old male, did a lot of running up to about 8 months ago, when I pulled up on an achilles, and have now developed Planter Fasciitis, which has virtally crippled me despite stretching exercises, so I am now a normal mortal so to speak.
Now for the problem, I am presribed Lantus solostar for my Type 2 diabetis control, which I developed around 7 years ago, mainly due to poor diet/ working hours.
I was always showing readings of around 8.3 maximum most mornings.
Alongside my diabetes, I was put on Statins as my family do have a history of strokes/ heart issues, although cholesterols are 4.2 and .9 but I started developing memory lapses, not good for a lecturer, and pains in my left arm, not good for my lady, started as a rotation problem and developed into a bicep strain sort of pain, absolute agony at times, so I lowered the statins to none over a six month period.
Unrelated to my Statin reduction which was 12 months ago, after visiting my Diabetes nurse where we agreed that I would increase my morning dose of 20 to 22, my readings went a bit haywire, and 12.7 to 9.6 became the norm. Dietary changes made not a scrap of difference, the amount injected also made no diffeence, the one Friday, Saturday and Sunday I experimented with 60 per day, readings were between 11 and 10.5 every morning, so decided that trying to force a hypo was not going to occur. Then started to wonder if the Statins were also prescribed to assist the pick up of the insulin, and have started them again last month, no memory lapses yet.
No difference to bloods still 12.5 every morning, but when I checked the Lantus website they say that the active times for the medication is 18-22 hours, or less and that hypo's are possible, but they don't know why. I actually did have a hypo about 12 months ago, within a hour of injecting what was my daily morning shot of 12. So I have started using 20 at 0615hrs and 20 at 1800hrs, and have had my first 7 reading for over a year, really so relieved, but starting to appreciate that the body is like an old clock that gains time, it only needs a small change at a time.
Still not convinced that Lantus is for me, and apprehensive about it's efficay full stop, how can it be that any amount I inject can have no effect to my readings.

Hi duncanespie

It is not unusual for insulin to have very little effect if your body is resistant to insulin.

I'm not sure how active you can be since the foot injury but I would have thought that you could take up certain exercises -such as upper body exercises which will help to stabilise your sugar levels.

When you exercise, your muscles will use up their stores of glucose and the longer you exercise, the more refuelling your muscles will need to do.

When you finish your exercise, your muscles will gradually refuel and they'll refuel by steadily taking glucose from your blood -therefore helping to reduce blood sugar levels.

Having a well-balanced lower calorie diet should also help out.
