Lantus - Night time levels

2 issues...

I take Lantus at bed time (as well as in the morning).

1. Why does my bs drop like a stone at bed time as soon as I've taken it? Really is weird. No Novorapid taken!

2) My bs seems to shoot up around 6am,whatever level my bs is at.. Does that mean i am not taking enough at bedtime?

My bs just seems to go crazy during the night .struggling to get my head round it!
 
If your blood sugar is dropping too low at night after taking your Lantus, adding more Lantus at that time will make it drop even lower. The morning rise could be dawn phenomena.

Hypo quickly? How often?

I have had a couple of isolated issues with lantus lows, where it's sent my blood sugar plummeting like a stone (worse than my bolus). But I believe this is due to injecting into a blood vessel, so luckily really really rare. I now split my lantus to remove the risk of this happening with a full 24 hour dose.

If it's happening every day then I think something else may be going on. I'll tag @Jaylee for some thoughts as he has had lots of experience with lantus...

What time do you take your Lantus in the evening. & how long after supper are you taking it? (Novorapid for me can still have a little kick at the 5 hour mark.)

How are these drops measured? (Sensor or meter?)
 
Once or twice a week. I thought it was long acting background insulin..thanks for the info
 
I usually finish meal about 7.30pm having started about 7, Novorapid 7pm. I di not eatanything else (only say a biscuit/juice if going down to 5ish). I take Lantus 11.15-11.30pm Sometimes it plummets, usually when below 10.

So dinner and Novo should have gone.

Could there be an is due with digestion and/orabsorption?

If I reduce Lantus will that make bs shoot up even earlier (usually about 6am..really annoying time)

My blood sugar can drop as soon as I go to bed (so if I take a correction dose pre-bed, I can see the rate of change of BG increases once I lie down), even if I've taken my abasaglar (lantus) some time before - are you use it's the lantus and not the fact you're going to bed?
 
my blood sugars drop very early in the morning and I wake up as if I have been in an accident and it's only been a hard hypo with my sugars going down as low as 2.5 and I come around and the first thing I want is sugar and something to drink and that's to get my sugars up to 3.5 and that's on Lantus and novorapid and I just feel like rubbish after a hypo and a few hours I'm back to normal or near enough and I keep reducing my insulin but it's not long before it gets high and it needs to be increased again so I have to keep a eye on it all the time it's just one of those things I have enough food for the night but it's the Lantus that reduce your sugars
 
yeah i know is the lantus I was talking with my dr on the phone I told her im gonna switch the Tresiba after suffering from Lantus for a month and guess what she told me no try first injecting Lantus in the morning cause Tresiba is not available in my country so I called Novo Nordisk and they assured me its available in my country I called the dr back and explain to her everything about hypo and Lantus weird behavior with details my appointment next month she told me to come today shall I go or switch by my self i don't trust her after lying about tribal is not available
