Hello I noticed something strange that my sugar levels before dinner (around 8PM) are always high nothing less than 11-12. However, yesterday I tested 2 hours after my lunch @5PM and it was 5.5. Fast forward till 7:30PM it was around 13?!! I haven't ate anything and this confirms that Lantus hasn't covered 24h (I usually take it around 11 12 midnight) so what should I do? Should I consider Tresiba or Toujeo? Any advice?

Tresiba has worked much better than lantus for me.

The easiest thing to do would be to split the lantus into two doses twelve hours apart.
Hmm I avoid splitting because I might sleep the time for the morning injection

from my own experience lantus only lasts for around 16 to 18 hours

I take mine 12 hours apart and usually just after I get up on most mornings. Otherwise I have a very coercing alarm set and then go back to sleep once it's done if I want.

Well I will try it definitely but did it cause any hypos?
I got more hypos with lantus. I took lantus in the morning so I didn't have night time hypos, but was finding I was dropping v low a few hours after taking it and then waking up high as it was wearing off. Tresiba is a lot more consistent.

Well that is good to hear that Tresiba has recieved a positive feedback

One before bed and one when you wake.......getting injections in at the exact same time isn't actually that significant....
According to my nurse, Levemir is the one to go after when it is about splitting dose.. so I'm not quite sure about splitting Lantus

To offer an alternative experience - my team pushed for me to split Lantus after trying it morning and night and not getting the desired result. It worked for me.

I used a split Lantus dose for about 10 years, and had a lot of night time hypos, even with dropping the dose. I switched to Tresiba at the beginning of this month, and haven’t had one at all. Will make sure I’ve got dextrose under my pillow tonight, cos s*d’s law dictates I’ll have one

I would agree with the nurse.....but until you make that change, the Lantus can still be split if you want to....

Make sure to tell us how it goes
