Lantus to Levemir

Hello,

I have been type 1 diabetic for 19 years now and was switched from Lantus to Levemir 2 days ago.

I am struggling with my sugar levels today, before dinner levels were 4.1. Did novorapid to match carbs, then did my evening dose of Levemir and now my levels have jumped to 13 with no real reason behind it. I have done nothing different.

Has anybody else had a similar experience with changing background insulin? I just haven’t had levels this high in a while and it’s unnerving me a little.

Thank You

I have also done Lantus to Levemir, it was about 18 months back. I found I had to up the dose to stay on track but it keeps my levels flatter than Lantus ever did.

For myself, I went from 16u Abasaglar (a Lantus biosimilar insulin) per day to 20+ Levemir per day.

When I went from Lantus to Levemir about three years ago I had to do a few weeks of basal testing as I tried out new doses. Like @urbanracer I ended up with more Levemir per 24hrs than I’d taken of Lantus, but the great thing about Levemir is that I can have different doses for the daytime and nighttime. People vary, but personally my evening Levemir dose is generally 0.5 less than the morning dose.
