Hi I'm new on the forum and newly diagnosed with type 1. I am just wondering is it OK to wake up and not have a meal for a few hours? (and also no insulin). I am not hungry yet and was going out for a late breakfast. TIA

On a basic level, if you haven't had carbs then you shouldn't need (bolus) insulin.
But kinda depends on YOUR insulin regime because I would still take my basal. Have you been started on pre-mixed insulin or straight on to basal/bolus?
Your basal insulin is the background stuff that keeps you brain ticking over etc. The bolus insulin is the stuff you inject when you eat.
If they've put you straight on a pump then you might be only having the one sort of insulin which acts as both basal and bolus, and I am not one to be able to advise in that situation - you'd need pumpers like @Mel dCP to join the discussion. There are a lot of pumpers here but my brain has taken the day off; it was very busy yesterday, poor thing.
What treatment regime are you on? Assuming it’s injections, as the others have said, it all depends when you take your long acting insulin, you need to take that as normal. I’m on a pump, but will happily go all day without eating if I’m not hungry and my levels are good.
Hey @James.W
Some great advice above but I want to emphasise the comment from @urbanracer it depends what insulin you are on.
If you take insulin with every meal, this is your bolus and provided you don't take this you don't have to eat at any particular time.
If you take insulin with meals you probably also take slow acting insulin once (or twice) a day. This is to be taken regardless of food.
However, some people start their t1 journey on "fixed dose mixed insulin". This is taken twice a day at fixed times which may not be meal times. If you are following this insulin regime, you have less flexibility and will need to eat the meals you were advised.
Thank you all for the replies. I probably should of mentioned what type of insulin I'm on. I have one that lasts 24 hours at night, then a different one before every meal. I didn't take anything until my first meal and turned out fine. Thank you all
