Just received my latest HbA1c....86 which seems to be around 10% in old money.

I have known for a while that my BG was high, although my DNS has not been too bothered. I do not know what to do now...I am currently taking 39 units of Humalin m3 before breakfast and before evening meal, making a total of 78 units daily and been reporting to my DNS twice weekly. A host of my other bloods/urine are "raised" or not right, according to the GP receptionist.

Another GP had checked results as my GP is on leave!! Although he has sent an internal e-mail to my GP. But as this GP said they were non-urgent, I should expect a phone call for an appt when my GP returns back to work!! Lovely!! She was not allowed to tell me results because of "patient confidentuality" but I did manage to get her to tell me my HbA1c. 86

I am now feeling very depressed indeed as I am at a total loss of what to do,...plus my DNS is also on leave until the 10th April! :(

You obviously do need to get your BGs under control sooner rather than later. Interesting that DSNs "aren't too bothered-" they might be if it was them! What sort of diet are you on?

Itr's pretty common for HCPs not to worry about Bgs and HbA1cs among their patients. At levels most of us would consider unaacceptab;e. Given that a non-diabetic HbA1cis around 4.5%, surely double that is cause for concern. Make another appointment with a view to getting a proper care plan. We all should have one of those.

Thanks for your replies.
I am trying to really control my diet and cutting down on carbs bit by bit. I have noticed that since I stopped drinking alcahol on 1st January (and I was a really heavy drinker of Scotch) my BG has really shot up and basically stayed there.

I thought at one stage I had "cracked" it when for about 3 days my BG was between 7.0 and 8.5 but it has followed the same pattern. Some near normal BG then back to high blood sugars and this is without any change in diet??

It is getting to the Wife, as her mother had type 2 with "normal" BG,certainly a lot lower than mine, and then all of a sudden BANG! full kidney failure without too much warning and the obvious consequences :( And my wife had to inform her at the time that she had 4 days. :-( I just do not know what on earth to do, especially as I now have to wait until my GP returns from leave!
Although I could insist on seeing another GP but I do not want to cause problems.

I just wish that my DNS would listen to me. I have been saying for quite a while that I may be better off on a bolus/basal regime although I would certainly prefer only 1 or 2 injections a day!! To top it off...I had to ask the nurse for my yearly bloods as they seem to have "forgotten" this year.

I should say that my DNS is also on leave until 10th April...she has only been back to work for a week after her last leave!!!

Is she coming back I ask myself?
