During my appointment tonight I told my nurse practitioner I was doing lchf, he was impressed by post eating of 7.2 after lunch today - I had prawns, cucumber and full fat cream cheese. I said I was aiming for around 50g of carbs per day but he said that was harsh and to think of it in portions and try to have a portion of carbs with each meal- which I don't really want to do as I've been adjusting well to main carb being weetabix for breakfast then a lunch like today with a main meal of meat and salad or bacon egg etc, he said I'm basically doing Atkins and without carbs I could end up in a&e??!!

Well I haven't been to a&e yet and ive been low carbing for 2 years now. I generally aim for 30g or less. Yes I have naughty days but I've never felt healthier!

The entire Aussie cricket team are lchf, haven't seen them in A&E - only beating England. I do wish that these HCP do a bit of research themselves before spouting utter ****.

You gets carbs in salads and in your wetabix, enough to last you, he is quoting the 'eat well' diet and N.I.C.E guidelines. If I didn't low carb I would be in A & E! you are doing fine!

I've only been doing lchf a week today and I'm sure I feel brighter than I have in ages, mornings in particular I was really sleepy and already I seem to be waking much fresher!

Thank you nosher!! Thing is, they expect me to reduce my levels and I'm going in that direction already, same as the "no need to test" comment- well, I purchased the monitor, I will be paying for the strips and it helps me know what I'm doing is good or bad!!

There is a link on this site somewhere but if not Google 'cereal killers' Excellent film on lchf, well worth watching. And its free to watch till July 4th.

About the only thing that doesn't digest to carbs is fat.

Even eating protein will digest slowly down to release glucose, and it is in all fruit and veg.

So unless you live on pure fat, you are eating carbs.

Which kind of debunks the pro-carb argument.

Regarding his ideas on eating a portion of carbs with every meal, well, it's all down to your body's tolerance.
If you can eat carbs and feel good, then go for it! But from what you say, you feel better, brighter, more energetic without them...

Just explore til you find what works for you.

I also had the same ill informed drivel spouted by my "healthcare professional". Why would I eat more carbs which increase my bs then take medication to lower bs? Doesn't this dietary advice negate the idea of the meds? I eat LCHF. Best thing I ever did and wish I'd done it sooner. I've lost 2stone 10lbs since 28th of jan. Hba1c has halved. I rest my case!

Exactly- when diagnosed ten days ago I was told to avoid bread, potatoes, pasta, rice - then today he says to have a sandwich at lunch etc!! Sticking to lchf the way I have been doing the past week!! You have done so well @sandichic!! Gives me hope !!

Keep going honey! It will be worth it! You may plateau. I know I have but the it starts again! Quite good fun on the stupid course I was asked to attend. They cannot deny the weight loss or the halved hba1c!

Seems like your nurse practitioner could do with a bit more practice in "real life LC" before being let loose! <still need a nursie nightshade emoticon Giverny!>
