These fish are all oily fish, and so are good sources of long-chain omega-3:
- tuna (fresh)
- Canned tuna does not count as oily fish. Fresh tuna is an oily fish, but when it is canned the amount of long-chain omega-3 fatty acids is reduced to levels similar to those in other fish.

I think you have to make a choice.
Decide if cholesterol is going to be a worry to you, then if it is, set a target.
Eat to achieve, (or medicate) that target.
Or choose to let it go to whatever level it finds for itself.
You can find numerous studies on the internet to prove or disprove anything.
Yes sorry Jack, I realise now. You told me earlier. Alarmed still that it says high risk and then follows it up with all pretty good or normal. Is the high risk bit supposed to be what we expect to hear from medical people and the other bit below it where mine says good - what this guy believes is the truth?is your Dr is happy enough with your cholesterol?
she gave you more fat to eat, so she don't seem to go with the old school fat is bad for cholesterol

This is a good point. I know someone whose cholesterol was high but statins were awful for him. He was lethargic all the time and had dreadful muscle pains. In the end his doctor agreed that he should stop taking statins. His total cholesterol was 12.0. So we also need to decide where the middle is too. I agree about the trigs though.But how low is low? But, for the time being cholesterol isn't really going to be an issue, re-reading your thread.
Your diet obviously works with regard to your kidneys, and BG, but you are still losing weight, and you don't seem to overly like the food.
So I would guess you will address that first, and then when you have found a diet you can maintain on, that's the time to look at cholesterol, as no doubt it will have changed somewhat again.
ThanksI can't do much to change the foods. As the doc once said to me I am damned if I do and damned if I don't. I weighed 9.5 stones just before my pre-diabetic test result of 44. That was less than a year ago - about 9 or 10 months. Now go between 7st 4 and 7 stone 6 most weeks. I took up LCHF. I eat coconut oil, extra virgin olive oil, butter and full fat Greek yoghurt ( I don't like cream). I eat nuts and seeds. I eat oily fish several times a week ( and put up with the way it aggravates my acid). I honestly don't know what else I can do. One thing I haven't mentioned is that I have fibromyalgia and suspected Chronic Fatigue Syndrome so spend a lot of my time housebound. I do not get a lot of exercise, and of course don't want to exercise too much anyway because I am trying to put on weight.

Isn't the LDL the one we should be most worried about?
The doc has had nothing to do with my diet and I saw a nurse for the results (actually the diabetic nurse) not the doctor.

Is it more than just coincidence that many people who are either prediabetic (including myself) or diabetic suffer with fibromyalgia or, like myself, polymyalgia?

I look like a skeleton without clothes and hate getting bathed now as I don't like to see my body! It's affected my marriage too on my side. I feel that this year has been hell on the health front. I spend most of my days in pain and exhausted anyway without all this other business. Sometimes I want to eat a huge piece of chocolate cake, a whole pizza to myself and put two fingers up to sugar levels.

Well that's debatable. When my BG went down to 37 my dietician told me to increase my carbs a bit as I could afford to - that's when the second slice of Burgen came into play. I used to keep a check on calories but she said to stop being hung up on it all. She actually is convinced that my pre-diabetic diagnosis was a one off result of me being ill physically and going through an awful lot of stress since my cancer. She said she wouldn't be surprised if it all went back to normal once my physical and mental health has improved. I reckon I probably eat around 1500 calories a day at best.
